    Steam Accounts/Product Licensing

Okay, so I purchased FFXIV ARR on a friends steam account because i am stupid. So, on mog station i have licensing for ARR for pc. I also have licensing for PS4 all the way to stormblood, I am about to sell my ps4, I am wondering that if i were to purchase stormblood on a different steam account than the one i purchased arr on, would i have any issues? This seems to be a very complicated matter that i keep getting mixed review for, so im reaching out to see if anyone just knows for sure before i make the decision.

I'm not a steam user, and what I say here is mostly opinion, but since nobody has yet to chime in, then I will.

I do know that once a key is linked to a steam account, with any game, it is linked for the life of the account and can't be transferred between steam accounts. Steam, according to their terms of service states this. You or your friend might try contacting steam, although I don't know if it'd do any good, as I said above, the key will forever be linked to his steam account.

It is also not possible to use the same steam account one more than one PC.

The only chance that you have, is to aquire a new steam Stormblood key for the game, and activate it in your mog station, since I'm unsure if the mog station will validate which steam account that ARR it's attached to. If mog station doesn't care, then it would be possible, but it would require you to launch the game independent of steam, which I read is possible. However, if you try this, be prepared that you may take another loss and that this may not work. Steam or SE either one are not likely to be of much help, and your only option.

You may have to scratch it as a loss and buy the whole game again. If that happens, I'd advise staying away from Steam on this one, as it's been nothing but trouble for some people.

If every other option fails, I've a spare non-steam ARR key that I could give you, and it would save you from having to buy the whole game again, and just requireing you to buy SB, which will save you $20. I bought it a year and a half ago thinking that I'd have a need for it, but ended up not. Hate to see it go to waste.

Here's the complications that are thrown in your direction. SE doesn't merge active or inactive accounts, even if the account holder is the same. For every platform you need a new license (PC/MAC/Steam/PS4 and of course formerly PS3 but that has been removed now). Stormblood itself requires you to have the base game aka ARR installed and registered, as well as having an active subscription that goes with that account.

As you stated above, you did have ARR as PC version, this is not compatible with the steam version and vice versa. And since I stated above that they don't link/merge or connect current accounts or accounts prior, the simple answer is this :

If you want to play now on steam, you will have to purchase ARR as well as Stormblood and this includes Heavensward as well. Or you could go the route of purchasing the complete edition, which are for new players or players that are switching their platforms. Problem here is that you will not be able to transfer your current character to that account nor will have access to that account. You would have to pay 2 subscriptions if you are planning on keeping your main account (PC/PS4) and won't be able to access SB on it, unless you're purchasing or installing it. Same for Steam, you will start with a fresh new account, having access to either ARR or/and SB if you purchased both versions, if you only purchase SB you won't be able to play at all on steam without ARR. You will however be able to link that new steam account to your current account on the mog station, even so it won't do anything besides you having only 1 login for the mog station, instead of multiple lol.

Hope it makes things a bit less confusing to you.

You are going to have to talk to SOE and see if they can remove the licensing for the steam edition off of your account ( I have not heard of this happening before however). This would probably make the game on your friends steam useless unless they key is reactivated to be used on a different account.

Otherwise your going to have to use his steam, or make a new account to play it on windows i am afraid.
