I don't like being punished for wanting to run dungeons.

Yesterday I encountered a problem where I was in POTD floors 51-60, as part of the normal grind most are familiar with. Anyways, we got two green-leafers that refused to advance to the next floor. When we asked them what they were doing, they said we shouldn't be rushing them, and therefore decided they wouldn't continue. After waiting another 5-ish minutes, we got impatient and booted one of them. We could not however, boot the other one - because now we had incurred "4 hour cooldown" from initiating boots.

So basically wasted our time there.

So then tonite I get on, going to run some normal dungeons. I sit in the DPS queue for 40 minutes as usual - and when I get into this dungeon run, everything starts off fine. We get to the first boss though, and suddenly the other 3 in my party start suffering lag problems I guess. They all got disconnected, only the tank came back on within 10 minutes. Okay well let's try to cobble this run together.. I tried to boot one of the offliners so we could replace them, but the guy who came back on said to wait longer. Another 5 minutes go by, times a wasting. Its just fine for this other guy, he's a tank - his queues are instant. Whatever, vote abandon maybe? I'd at least like to requeue for something.. NOPE! "No vote abandon, they'll be back on soon!" Another 5 minutes goes by...

So I just leave. Whatever there's only two people online, we've wasted a half hour already. Oh look, now I have a 30 minute penalty for leaving a dungeon early, even though there were only two of us online and the other guy refused to let me leave peacefully!

Thanks square. Thanks yoshi. Thanks for making the dungeon experience absolutely punishing to DPS players. I know now that I just shouldn't run dungeons any more, because it is wrong to do so.

Also, WTF is with these tiny character requirements for submissions? This is the absolute worst forum I've ever had the misfortune of posting on.

If you type out everything you want to say, then cut out everything but the first 10 characters or so, then submit it and edit it, you can then paste it all into one post.

As for the first example. I don't sympathise much. Not everybody wants to run through the dungeon as fast as possible. Some want to look around, some want to get the blue chests so they can get their aether gear up.

On the other hand, yeah, the second dude should have let you kick those guys. Five minutes is enough to log in if you get dc'd

While I understand "wanting to look around" these guys were literally just standing around chatting in front of the portal for a minute before we reminded them to get in the circle. That is what was met with the defiant "We just aren't going to let anyone advance floors" bullshit. I don't think it is unreasonable to want to continue advancing when they were doing nothing otherwise. It is unreasonable to simply sit around doing nothing and holding up your group mates just so you can find an excuse to get huffy and ruin the run for everyone.

Well for starters, they won't let me boot offline people for being offline. As referenced by the 4 hour cooldown they saw fit to place on me after the last time I had to boot an afk'er. Secondly, they now have me locked out of further dungeon queues (for which I will then be fortunate enough to sit in for another 40 minutes before getting into my next run) because I left a dungeon that had half my party members offline for an extended period, leaving me at the mercy of the one other online player in the party.

Infrastructure based punishment which assumes that legitimate players are being malicious by enforcing strict lockouts on required group actions, is still punishment on the player. I was rewarded with a lot of wasted time for my efforts.

Well, you didn't say they were doing nothing. lol. In that case yeah. It would be annoying.

Boo hoo, it happens? Boot them. You and that other person had the ability to boot two separate people. One for you, one for them, unless one of you booted recently.

If you couldn't boot that second person, abandon duty, blacklist them both. Report them with exactly what happened, what time of the day it was, ect. Re-queue.

Palace doesn't take that long to pop at any time of the day unless it's nearing maintenance.
