    Instanced housing idea

Have a crystal that can be tethered to any location, creating a pocket dimension based on the aesthetics of every zone. Not everyone wants to live in a city. Some of us want to live out in the wild. Allow us to invite our friends to the house. Maybe you have to give them some kind of a key. The key could be a housing shard, and you'd be able to revoke it, therefore disintegrating it at any time. Maybe you'd even be able to set a length of use.

I would very much love to have instanced housing, although from my understanding it might not be feasible because of how things are currently programmed?
That being said however, I'd like to take a moment to disregard any technical limitations to add my two gil.
I know this is like comparing apples to low-poly oranges here, but maybe it could work like Runescape? Player houses were in their own (assuming instanced) areas that were accessed via portals, with full plots that could be built upon over time. You had the house as well as the surrounding area (to use for building expansions or gardens), and the way it could work in FFXIV is that the houses would have their respective plot sizes (same amount of room to decorate and everything), and perhaps a bit of extra space to accommodate the entrance and establish the aesthetics of each housing district.
Of course this is almost certainly much easier said than done, so this is just wishful thinking on my part. XD

This is how it works in Wildstar as well. At level 15 you get a whole island to yourself, for free! A house you can decorate and crafting/gathering of your choice + a seller. It's rather amazing. I wish more people played that game because it's awesome. But it ain't waifu simulator enough I guess. :/

It doesn't even need to be that. Go out, find a floating island, drop a crafted Aetherye on it, some props and an engine and you can place it wherever you want. That would also make it lore-perfect since the Sky Pirates in the Void Ark storyline have exactly that.

A pocket dimension doesn't quite fit the lore.

(EDIT) Here's some screenshots because the game was down when originally posted this.
    Outsides:

    Insides:

I see at least 4 floating islands connected together.

Also, there's at least 4 inaccessable doors, which suggests to me if they're not decorations they might be useful somewhere down the line.

Let's say you could do instanced housing like this, where you grab some floating islands and tie them together with bridges, propellers and such, you would have a lot more flexability, and the game server doesn't have to physically locate the your instance anywhere, you can just be flying in the "floating island area" around and randomly encounter one, or if you know where one currently is, just fly to it (eg a friends location) or remain anonymous.

Instanced housing would be great, but at this point I doubt it would be implemented. Too much has been invested into the current system. Replacing it would cause massive complaints among those who already own houses and it would definitely require an expansion or something to put it in place. I doubt it would happen during a regular patch cycle.

ESO did a good job with housing. Instanced, but still visible in game and you could actually buy some from the cash shop if you didn't want to farm for gold. Now if they only had a better AH system.

Wildstar has the best housing system ever ever EVER! gosh, I loved it so much. If Wildstar has more people playing it. I'd definitely go back. Love their combat system and everything else.

I only played WildStar briefly when it first came out. Enjoyed the housing system and combat wasn't bad, but it was extremely grinding and not really friendly to casual players. Really felt more like old school WoW and I was so over that by that point.

The issue is not the feasablity, as long as SE keeps saying "everything is fine with our crapy housing" we won't see any changes...
    SE regarding the housing issues

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

A pocket dimension doesn't fit the lore? Have you gone to Dun Scaith? It's a pocket dimension.

Yes I've been there, and the storyline to that is that is that is a floating island as well. The point I was making was that there is no mechanism in the game that creates easy to reach pocket dimensions. They are all things that are artificially created within the games lore, and have to be maintained.

The ancient tome recovered by Captain Radlia of the Talons tells of a floating refuge─an island created by Mhachi sorcerers to provide safe haven from calamitous floodwaters. With the disaster that befell the Void Ark, however, the island's intended residents never arrived. Cait Sith is convinced that Diabolos has instead claimed this refuge as his own, transforming what was to be a bastion of hope into a voidsent nest of shadowy nightmare. And it is into this fiendish lair that you must delve.

The Lady Radlia stands ready to bear you across the skies. Assault the island, reclaim the Nullstone, and cast your demonic foes into oblivion!
