    Au Ra and Dark Knights.

    Hey all.

Now that we have some more lore to both the Raen and the Xaela, which race do you think fits the DRK better?

I've been arguing this back and forth with some friends and came to the conclusion that the Xaela fit better, due to their nomadic culture and warring ways.

    What do you think?

Well, except Xaela are frequently content to remain living in the Steppes, rarely venturing outside of it; they're nomadic, sure, but primarily within their home region.

Since Dark Knight is a discipline completely foreign to Othard, I would argue that it's equally suited to either race. None of the new lore makes me think either is more culturally pre-disposed towards the Job: while the Xaela are indeed a warrior people with tight-knit tribes to protect, the Raen have a long history as warriors as well, and have adopted the honour-based culture of Doman society.

Though the discipline is completely foreign to Othard, Xaela probably would fit better as Dark Knights. The only Raen settlement we see is Sui-no-Sato, an underwater isolationist village that spurns any and all outsiders to avoid conflict. They flat-out exiled Yugiri for deciding to sacrifice her safety and innocence for the greater good - exactly the sort of thing a Dark Knight does. Dark Knights also don't give a damn about honor, as evidenced by their "whatever it takes" philosophy and dirty fighting style.

That said Xaela don't seem to particularly care for justice, being more concerned with the safety and well-being of their tribe. Though they are a warrior race and as Magnai shows during the Nadaam may place pragmatism over honor, their tribe's safety and standing seems to be of a higher concern than trying to curb the excesses of the powerful.

If I had make a bet, I'd wager Raen are inclined toward the more traditional Knight (Paladin), while Xaela would more closely align with Dark Knights... if they awakened to justice.

You do make a fair point, although one can argue that the Xaela would do anything to protect their tribe, an ideology that closely resembles that of the DRK. I do see how their sense of justice would be an issue, but that can be explained on a per character basis with some RP thrown in there.
