Not really new to MMORPG, but the Hud layout is terrible as well as the hotbars

Hello guys/girls I'm getting annoying with the HUD/hotbars which i want to set it up to the way i want it, doesn't everyone want that.

So yea based on my PC experience I enjoy my skills hotbar on the bot or on the right side, which usually the quest outline are. Yea i want my quests to be displayed on my left side

Yea I'm playing on the Ps4 Pro & yet the touch pad from the ps4 controller is extremely senstive i can't drag or change anything vertically as it says i can in the "character configuration tab" or system tab.

I'm not a fan of having the press r1 just to get to different hot-bars extremely tedious.

I've look @ several videos on Youtube, but nothing on to setup it up properly the cross shit doesn't help either.

If you activate the virtual mouse (L1+R3) this will allow you better freedom in moving HUD boxes to more UI friendly locations. It took me a long time to finally decide any decent locations, although Stormblood messed that up again, but slowly adjusting. Eventually you'll get something that works for you.
As for the hotbars. If you do not use keyboard and mouse on console, then R1 is the most suitable way of accessing other hotbars. You can also set a cross hotbar (XHB) option in the the config that allows you to bring specific bars up using L2 and R2 for quicker access (without leaving hotbar 1 for example).

Honestly it all takes some time to find an actual method that works for you and no doubt you'll constantly be updating settings and messing around with stuff before you become truely become content with it. I'm happy to share an image of my layout at the moment if you think it may help.

The Ps4 controller touch pad makes it impossible to drag etc, not mention it functions like tab, so any other actions fails

The touch pad isn't supposed to be a replacement for an actual mouse, and it's freedom is very limited hence why a virtual mouse option is available. But it's one of those things where you're either better going the whole way with one or the other (either controller or keyboard and mouse). I'd only ever use the touch/tab function to cycle between the chat, map, loot and other action help (ready check etc). It really does get easier over time though but can be tough coming from a PC environment.

The ui has been fine for me and I've been playing pc/controller for years. That's only controller no keyboard and mouse. You can drag things around with the touchpad on PS4 or as kurando said, l1+r3 is another method. In system settings there's many sizes to choose from though I hear they messed it up on PS4, not sure if that's fixed yet. When viewing a window you can set its scale individually with r3. If dragging isn't working, use the ui adjustment menu, I forgot what it's called but if your in the menu it's the far right list, same area as system settings and character settings.

If your using cross hot bars you have to switch with r1 which I find fine. If you want an additional hotbar you can set it in character settings somewhere in cross hotbar settings so that L2+R2 is another hotbar and R2+L2 is another, hold both in those orders. Every part of the UI can be moved. With your trackpad it may not be easy but you won't do it often. The ui itself I found very manageable and the game works great for controllers to be on par with keyboard and mouse

If you play controller, I strongly recommend using the WXHB settings, which allows you a total of 48 hotbar slots at your fingertips easily. For others, you can swap with R1+[button]. For example, I have all of my basic skills on my basic 16 cross-hotbar slots. Then I have all of my major cooldowns that I occasionally use on my double-tap bars, displayed above my basic bar. The the L2->R2 and R2->L2 bars hold a variety of things such as ranged melee-class attacks, DoTs, gap closers, etc, that I use often, but not constantly, and which I don't always need to see the cooldown for. I also have a PC hotbar set on the right side of my screen into which I put skills that have cooldowns that I need to track, but which are not constantly visible on my basic and double-tap hotbars (for example, pet skills, or gap closers). I never actually activate from that bar. It's just there as a cooldown reference.

I twitched the touch pad off entirely for FFXIV as it totally annoyed me. To move things around you don't need to use a mouse, virtual or otherwise, at all - everything can be done with the pad using the HUD menu and pushing the sticks to move everything with one exception (you have to click/drag the corner of the chat log to resize that, or at least you did last time I tried - accomplished via the virtual mouse).

I only have battle skills on my hotbars so only need to toggle with R1 between my main bar and situational bar, then I have extra important stuff on the various 'hold R2/L2' extended bars which works well.

I don't manually switch to different crossbars except when setting them up. I have one crossbar set to be used when my weapon is sheathed, another when it's drawn, another the "expanded hold control" bar, and a fourth is my W crossbar. Although I've designated a fifth crossbar to be a secondary bar to use when my weapon is drawn, I've yet to need it for anything. Four crossbars is enough for all the skills I want to place there, and you can have access to that many before even needing to switch between them.

(For a couple jobs, I also use a straight hotbar just under the crossbar to duplicate a few of the skills on my expanded crossbar, but that's just to keep their icons visible so I can see when the cooldown is up. Then I use the expanded bar to actually activate them.)

Agreed that the touch pad is terrible, so don't use it. There's an option to disable the mouse-like behavior of the touch pad. (You still click on the touch pad to cycle between HUD elements, but that's the only use you should have for it.)

The items that appear in the HUD Layout screen are moved by one of the controller's analog sticks (the right one I think), and other windows can be dragged by setting the controller to mouse mode (L1+R3 to toggle it on/off, then right analog stick to move the cursor while L2 and R2 act as left and right mouse buttons.)

Do controller players not have the option of moving HUD elements pixel-by-pixel using the D-pad? The equivalent on keyboard (num2/4/6/8) move HUD elements with ease and precision.
