And from what I've read, the game may be back up in 1-2 weeks.

I hope so, but with the situation in Japan getting worse everyday instead of better i doubt it.

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

Given the worsening situation in Japan, moving the servers (even if only temporarily) is the right decision for S-E as a company. Not to downplay the crisis, but S-E is losing money and customers right now, not just from XIV but from XI as well. It may take some time to prepare the servers for relocation, but it would most likely be less time than waiting for Japan to get the infrastructure repaired.

Let's not forget that besides the nuclear reactors failing, there are miles of power lines that need to be repaired. Getting industries back online will be a priority, as Japan is taking a major financial blow right now, but the humanitarian relief will still top it for awhile. This may be a rare event, but let's not kid ourselves: the reconstruction of the country will be a long process.

With that said, if they do move the servers, I can't imagine it being any less than a permanent move. Taking them down to relocate them back to Japan once the country is on it's feet would be just as detrimental as leaving them offline right now (assuming it takes a couple weeks to prep and ship the hardware and data). People are more forgiving in the wake of natural disaster, but once recovery takes hold they won't be. I'm sure there are other logistical issues that go with moving as well, like: where does the dev team reside if the servers are moved?

In any event, I expect them to be down for at least a month as S-E weighs the options and takes action, or the unlikely event that the energy conservation act is lifted.

    Dear S-E,
Your s#!% has improved, but it's not quite there yet...you might want to see to that.
    Thanks.
