Job potions and newbies - let's not double standard ^^

    Hi all,
I've been playing since beta, and remember when we were ALL new to the game (farming Darklight just to be able to stand a chance at Titan HM...ick). However, I have been struck with a seeming change in attitude concerning people who buy jump potions now that they exist. In essence, these people are exactly like the newbie sprouts who are often given a lot of leeway for errors and offered helpful advice/gifts, even. The level 60 jump potion users, however, I've seen get harassed and/or ridiculed for using the potion and not somehow automatically performing the same as a 'normal' level 60 who leveled to 60 would. Do we all forget that these folks are just like the other, actual new sprouts?

With the way the system works, and I believe 168 hours still being required for the sprout icon to totally disappear (without manually removing it every day), we'll be seeing lots of level 70 sprouts for quite some time. I think we should remember to maybe have the tolerance for them that we would for any other new player ^_^v

But they had the choice to go through it the normal way, which teaches at least some basic game mechanics. There is a difference between getting a new healer healing me in Sastasha and a new healer in Sirensong, the latter is much more demanding than the former on a healer (relatively speaking)

I don't insult players, but it's not the same thing since the game demands more from people at that point.

But..but...but...but they did work as hard as me so clearly their lazy and potions ruined the game. /s

Give it a few months. Jump potion sprouts will be out performing some long time players.

TBH Most people who give them shit are barely better than the people they're mocking, but feel like they have some sort of moral high ground because even though they're trash, they spent TIME not improving at the game or learning to earn that 70.

Yeah, but in a regular game, no sprout starts at lv 60.

I do have tolerance for all players tho, especially since I'm a mentor. But the things a mentor can do are limited. I can explain fights mechanics but I won't stop to tell every lv 60 newbie how to play the job properly. Those things you need to learn before gets 70. Yeah, you learn your actual final rotation at 70, but a lot of skills are introduced in a specific way to make the player lear about new skill before giving him another one.

It's also the most popular MMO on the market that implemented jump potions without issue.

Your conjecture is false where MMOs are concerned.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor (level 90 boost), Legion (level 100 boost).
Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns (level 80 boost)
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen (level 60 boost)

Boosts are placed in long-running MMOs because your new best friend wants to play with you NOW, not six months later during the second post-expansion update. Not everyone wants to play through four years of content before reaching the "good stuff" in the next expansion. It may be a pain for a month or two, but you weren't really going to invite them to your Party Finder group anyway.

Boosts are also in place so you can change your main from that Stupid <insert-current-job> to that Glorious <insert-wannabe-job> without having to spend a week grinding in Palace of the Dead. Except for Samurai and Red Mage -- you deserve the grind.
