Security Token For Forum Sign In is Dumb!

The mandatory requirement to force forum users to have to use their token to sign in if they are using the token to log into the game is super dumb.

People are going to want to routinely access these forums away from their home computer. Are we expected to carry our game security token everywhere we go in the case that they happen to want post on the forums away from home? Seems a bit silly.

I think it's because it's linked your Square Enix account. If you notice, you need to log onto the Square Enix Account System in order to get on the forums. So, if your "forum" account is compromised, then your game account/lodestone/whatever else is on there is compromised too.

It's a tossup between a secure account vs a convenient one. It would be a little annoying if "unaffiliated parties" joined the forums... like spam bots or trolls with throwaway accounts.

A little silly, yes, but in the long run it's more beneficial.

It's called "Security Token Key-chain" put it on your key chain o.o

and what macha said is right it's more beneficial that you need to log in with a account that you need ffxiv for less troll the better.

I think it's a good idea to block those spammers and stuff. It's not much of a hassle to carry that little token with me though. I've logged in yesterday and I restarted the computer a couple times and I'm still logged in. So as long there's no server down or anything you should only log in for 1 time and then you're good to go. :O

I'm more concerned whether posting from work will trigger the security function SE put in a week or so ago.

Will this cause the suspition of unauthorised access if done form a PC outside the one use to play with?

That's good to know. So posting from a different computer while using an account that does not have a security token could get your account locked?

This makes sense, since the only people I've heard of having their logins restricted were those who didn't have security tokens.

Is there many ppl that had trouble with the security token? I don't want to use it because i had one and my wife had one. After 2 month using it my wife token broke, We never took it anywhere, it was in a bowl beside the computer screen so it was not hit or dropped or anything that could justify why it broke so fast... then mine also broken after 4 month... they were still showing a # but the account would not recognize it. I called SE and had to wait for almost an hour before i got answer then they deactivated it and said they would call me when they know what happened. And now a year or more later i still never heard of them
