I also recognize that a very tiny fraction of FFXIV players ever visit the forums, and so most players don't even give Balmung (or any other server) a second of thought.

I think you're a bit delusional. I was on Balmung for a year and was extremely happy I left (Of my own accord with a self paid transfer) for Gilgamesh.

I said "many", not "most" or "all". If you disagree with that, that's fine, but you may be the delusional one in that case.

I notice you also didn't clarify why you left, or whether you actually even disliked Balmung in the first place (now that you're gone).

That would be misplaced anger then, since it was Square Enix that chose to allow and profit off of server transfers even though they knew Balmung was over capacity. They are the ones that manage server populations. If they managed poorly, it is them you should be taking issue with, not the residents of a server who did nothing more than go somewhere they were allowed to be.

You even say "resent for Balmung is very obviously due to SE accommodating them" - who is "them" in that statement? The residents of Balmung? As if Square was actually accommodating anyone outside of their own self interests. Balmung residents didn't ask for the server to be filled beyond capacity. Balmung residents didn't ask for Square to fail to manage the population properly. Balmung residents didn't ask Square to accepts payments for additional transfers to a server they claimed to have closed.

Do you realize Balmung residents can't even create additional characters on their own server? So while you get to have 8 characters on Siren, some Balmung residents are only allowed 1 (even though additional characters from the same player don't actually add to the population). Where you see "accommodation", I see a server that is being penalized by a company that took financial advantage of its popularity.

Balmung isn't the only congested server, every datacentre has at least one or two servers that are considered to be overpopulated.

I'm from Balmung and honestly?
I get really tired of telling friends I'm from there and others, people on these here forums bashes us to hell.
My friends would laugh because it's ERP central or people are jerks or some random misconception.
But as someone who doesn't RP, the people here are really friendly.
Yes people ERP but I've never one seen anyone do it publicly and if they do ERP, who cares?
Let people do what they want, it doesn't harm/hurt you.
It's so annoying when people hive mind about this server just from what others said.
This whole thing just made people hate the server and the people in it even more.
There are goods and bads on every server. I also agree it's a 'Jack of all trades' server.

Phone Edit: But yeah, I dunno I just get bugged that people go out their way to call Balmung the devil
of servers when we are just people like everyone else. This whole Congested thing sucks
and I appreciate those who feel for us and understand why some of us won't move and
I ALSO feel bad for the disruptions over other servers but Christ, the hate I'm seeing
is almost the worst I seen in a long time on the forums. So that's my say in all this.
