Hi all! I'm going on vacation out of state soon and I'll be on the road for several hours. I've heard that this game is very friendly on mobile data plans as it doesn't constantly stream a large amount of data but I'm wondering how accurate this is. My question is does anyone know how much data would be used by FFXIV during a 1 hour session? I plan on tethering my phone to my laptop to play when other people are driving.

I play at work a lot which I can't use company internet to play so I use my laptop with my phone as a wifi hotspot and FFXIV consumes around 10mb/1hr of data hope that helps.

For six months I had to live off cell phone data just to play because we had no internet service at all in the area I moved to (thankfully got fiber now). But yes, it really low and I was able to go a whole month playing if not using data for anything else. However, if you get an update, it'll suck the life out of data in no time!

Surprisingly enough, the chat window will eat away at your data. If you plan on hanging around busy areas, it's push the Mb per hour up pretty quickly.

Thanks for the heads up. Will hiding the chat log or disabling stuff from it help? Or will I have to avoid populated areas entirely?

The client still receives chat messages even if you filter them out of sight. You can reduce the amount of data used by also playing in less-congested zones if your server has any of that. More players = more information about those players going to your client.

It doesn't eat a lot. to play xiv. I quite frequently use my phones 4g to play when away from home on my laptop

however you minght wanna make sure all your back ground stuff is also disabled if using mobile data.

if your security software starts downloading new virus definitions or policy updates and stuff or windows or your other software like NVidia auto downloads updates or you have things like skype or even push email / even stuff like dropbox / one drive running, all of that can really eat your data..

so definitely worth taking a few minutes to check what you've got running and what connects to the net.

if you have a firewall might be worth checking the settings for that. my firewall is configured so that whenever I connect to my galaxy6 wifi hotspot it auomatically denies almost everything access to the internet.. but soon as I connect at home its all normal
