    Taking a cue from Levi story for Balmung...

    If people recall, in the storyline for the Leviathan fight, in order to carry enough crystals to weaken Levithan, we needed a large boat. Bigger than Limsa had. So what did we do?

    Take two boats and tie them together.

    Why can't we take two servers and tie them together?

    Make them both refer to the same database character storage is in. Maybe add a choice on picking your character similar to how the instanced zones work, allowing them to Balmung 1 or Balmung 2 or no preference?

    One hurdle I can think of is public chats (Say, shout, yell) won't necessarily cross-over. I don't see how tells, linkshell, and FC chat would be an issue because of the instanced zones like we have now work with it.

    Another is hunt mobs, theoretically one would spawn on each like they do on instanced zones. Maybe make like a 2-3 hour delay before you can switch to the other one? I'd think most groups would figure out a primary choice anyways.

    I'm not sure how feasible this would be, I'm not a server admin. Just a random thought I had that's probably dumb.

    If the game were built for that like EvE Online, sure it could work that way, but otherwise, no.. it isn't that simple.

    Less about the idea but it bugged me that our double boat barge was smaller than the galleons you see in the story.

    Unfortunately, if it was that simple, SE would have done that years ago.

    By the way, you're not dumb. Most of us have no idea how to repair a car -- we leave it to the experts. In this case, the developers have a better understanding than we ever can.

    We know absolutely nothing about the server infrastructure, or the internal game design. What systems make cross-world Dungeon Finder possible? How can there be multiple "server instances" for the current Stormblood zones? How is the digital magic of the cross-world Party Finder created?

    What we do know is that Persistence is maintained for each World in a Data Center.

    We have no idea about what maintains that persistence, nor do we realize how disastrous it might be to the entire World [indeed, to entire Worlds] if we Just Do X.

    Are you comparing an in-game scenario to an actual problem where we are bound by physics, technical limitations and other rules? Is this serious?

    As a server admin, I can tell you there's still no way of knowing from our side. Your idea absolutely would work in some environments (more figuratively than literally "tying" of course), but maybe not the one that this game uses.
