    Level 54 Samurai Quest

He wasn't kidding when he said he was studying the blade while I was doing MSQ because he has destroyed me twice now.

I'm fine with everything else in the instance, it's just that one guy comes in and it's over. He hits like an absolute truck.

Any hints on how to beat this guy?

I just completed it and yeah, he hits like a ton of bricks. My advice is to make sure you have some high level potions on hand, have the second wind and bloodbath from the cross job skills and be ready to move. I used the samurai shield (3rd eye) whenever it was ready and used the Hissatsu: Kaiten to power up the Midare Setsugekka (3rd tier special attack) and used that as often as I could. Make sure to take advantage of the buffs and debuffs from your different combos too. If you can avoid the aoes you should be good. Hope this helps some.

Which quest is this? The one on the Ship? Try waiting until Lv56 -- it's 54 but you're allowed to go in with 2 extra levels (like many solo duties) which can help a bit.

And yes, you will want some Max Potions HQ (you can get loads of these from Floor 51-60 PotD) and the aforementioned healing abilities. When I did it at 56 and all of my equipment was sync'd, yes, he was hitting rather hard. Took me down to 25% left even by the time I finally got him down. I suppose I could have been spamming Third Eye (I wasn't using it) and don't forget about Meikyo Shisui either (another thing I forgot to use).

Don't wait until you're almost dead to use your healing abilities -- Max Potions are 30% of your HP so wait until you are missing about a third and use it (to give it time to cool down before you die so you can use another one). Do Bloodbath early in the fight (as soon as you are missing about 25% or so) and spam Third Eye/Merciful as much as you can throughout.

Oh, and... remember these tactics. The Lv60 fight is even harder, lol. The boss doesn't hit as hard (unless you fail to dodge) but it's a lot LONGER.

I had trouble with this fight as well, but what actually helped me was... buying ilvl255 gear from the MB. Shot my HP up from a measly 8k to like 15k. Needless to say, it made the fight change from frustrating to an actual challenge where I was eating hits properly and not dying from three hits. :P

This quest is overtuned like crazy, get bloodbath and feint which ruins his damage. Without feint he'll just chunk you for 1/6 of your hp from auto attacks.

This quest is definitely overtuned. I had no issue with the previous enemies, but got floored in a matter of about 10 seconds the first time I fought the last guy, because I wasn't prepared to eat hits totaling to about 80% of my HP back to back.

I managed to pull it off in ilvl 115 gear, but I needed maxed out kenki and to use every last survival cooldown I had the instant they came up. I also needed to flee to max range every time he used an AoE to get more time to regen HP.

Yeah I cleared this fight awhile ago. You defiantly need some good gear in order to stand a chance. Bloodbath and Second wind along with Third eye.

Well now I feel real dumb for trying to do the fight at Level 54 with iLevel 110 gear and no potions...

I did get him down to only 1/3 hp remaining so I guess that's something.

I just recently completed this one. Took me a few tries as well to complete this quest. I updated my gear and just ran around the arena taking pop shots at him when I could. didn't use potions. Spammed Bloodbath, Second Wind, and Third Eye every chance I got. Not the best way to clear it but it worked for me.

I think the best way to do this quest is to just play literally any other class in the game including the non-combatants, and never ever ever ever look back. It's not enough that he hits for 30% of your hp with a single attack. It's not enough that he's immune to stun. It's not enough that it's clearly intended for you to play it at a higher level than the level they give it to you at. No, then when you lose the game belittles you, asking how you could possibly die to such an easy opponent. This quest sucks, this class sucks. Use every skill on your bar to try and build to one ability and then die anyway.
