You lost me at Maker's Mark. That means no Initial Preparations, and another half hour per synth. Maker's Mark is going to be 40 steps long by the time we get to 2 stars.

Just depends on the difficulty of the craft. If you have to hit careful synth 3 like 5 times, when will you put in the quality?

MM scales with item difficulty. Sure it's a pain but it's a safe bet. Then again, maybe they won't make item difficulty much higher and maybe quality will be easy to max.
