Something Needs to Be Done About Vote Kicking in Dungeons

Today I watched my friend get kicked out a dungeon for 'Being AFK'
He was definitely not AFK. He was definitely attacking and using skills and staying caught up with the group. This event didn't bother my friend but as someone who has seen the vote kick system abused one to many times in my around 3 years of playing it bothered me. I'm making this post because this was the straw that broke the Dhalmel's back.

(story that caused my rage in next post 'cause too long)

I understand you can kick someone for a difference in play style based on an ancient forum post but this goes beyond a difference in play style. It was a single skill not being used on demand. I also understand players can report abuse of the system but many players won't bother reporting. I feel the abuse of this system has been left unchecked way too long.

What do you, my fellow player base, think about this system? Do you feel that it's something that needs to be addressed?

The other DPS (SAM) requested my friend (RDM) use Scatter in a new lvling dungeon. My friend is still leveling his RDM plus it's a new class so obviously he's not going to be 100% how to play it.

What upset me is the samurai didn't even explain why he should use it. They just said "Scatter please" then vote kicked him even after he used it. If my red mage friend mouthed back at the samurai I'd understand if he was kicked for harassment. I'd also understand if him not using the skill was hindering our group from clearing the dungeon. Of course it went through because the tank and samurai came in together.

I don't think the 2/3 votes = a kick (or 4/7) is very fair for reasons like this. Players that come in together will gang up on the pug(s) and if they don't like something they're doing, will kick them for a fake reason. I've also heard people being kicked out of dungeons just so that group's friend could replace them.

Sorry this happened to your friend. It sucks. It happens a lot less often then you would think(and the kicking someone so a friend could join is beyond rare). Report, blacklist, and move on is the best way to deal with it. People do get punished for abusing the system(maybe not as often as they should, but still).

Without knowing too much about the job....Scatter seems to be RDMs go-too AOE spell. If your friend is playing a 50+ job they should know about AOE spells by now. (If they boosted: No excuse
. Deal with it.). If I see people single targeting when we have an AOE friendly group I tend to feel frustrated with them, and would have told them to Scatter, then passed the vote kick if they didn't listen.

(Kicked for AFK is reportable but)

I wouldn't mind seeing the Vote Kick requirement changed to 3/4s including the player being voted upon — 3/3 in a 4-man or 6/7 in an 8-man.

At that point though, many groups may become frustrated that friends of even outright AFKers are protecting them from kicks.

Sidenote: I've been replaced after a successful daily roulette speedrun right before I could start the final boss a good 9 times by now, sometimes even with the apology "sorry, but our friend needs daily". Even this, with screencap, is not enough to warrant GM action, apparently. Therefore I'd say your best bets in these regards are a change in vote policy, though it would do nothing for players who queue solo.

So robbing you of your clear is ok for GM?: are they for real?: Did they think it was a previously agreed to thing between you and the party?: gaol that a solid day for behaviour like that.
