Originally the devs said they didn't want everyone to be able to glamor everything because it would cause confusion over what role you were. Then they release stuff like the giant pig suit, that any job can use as a glamor....

Ayeee.
If they are wanting to keep roles clear, I would say make it so that you cant glamour weapons cross-class, but let everything else be fair game. The weapon is what decides our job anyway, so there could be our one tie-in to show what jobs people are playing.

Dunno if it was said already, but this exact thing existed in ARR's PVP. Your glamour would get stripped when you went into PVP and you would appear in your actual gear.
No. I'm going to "wear" whatever the current expansion NIN AF is from start to finish and you're going to watch me do it, whether you like it or not!

Make it rain hair style will be in the mogstation next year around the time the new event happens, which seems to happen with every event that they do.
I agree that there shouldn't be restrictions on glamour. I mean, right now my paladin looks like she's in a nightie, so there's no reason not to allow cross-class glamouring. I personally would love more options for glamouring looks. Though, I suppose it wouldn't make sense in some cases, like if I were to make my sword look like a samurai sword. :P

I'm in favour of some restrictions, but I would open things up option wise a little more.
Still, it's probably a side effect of the fact we can only glamour things we can actually wear. I'm really not fussed enough to push for changing it when they could be working on a glamour log.

Well if they're redoing things behind the scenes to give us a glamour log (they're doing this, right? It's just still a secret, right?) they can always add a way to break some of the restrictions. I don't mind if I have to upgrade or perform some arbitrary challenge to unlock the class-independent version of a glamour given how brilliant the feature would be.
Weapons should probably stay locked though since animations sort of depend on them. And AF so that traditionalists don't get upset. Everything else though (including, in my opinion, awesome-looking crafter/gatherer AF almost nobody realistically has space to store) should be free to use.

Enough players complained about party members wearing gear with the wrong main stats to pass the minimum ilevel (or to soulbind DoH gear in dungeons).
It is not because of glamour.

Right, but that doesn't stop people who want the same glamour options we had in HW/ARR from being caught in the crossfire.

And that could and should have been solved with a STAT check, not a gear restriction. You could even have left the damn accessories unlocked with that AND it would have better reflected the different value between left side and right side, as left side gives more stats. And they could have fixed the issue of the weapon not being considered proportional to its value as well in the process.
But no... they always shoot for the dumbest solution possible >_>
Hnnngh...
