The population reflects people's interest in the game. Seems most of us have gotten tired of waiting for something to happen. I for one have lost my faith. To get it it back i have to now pay for faith...lol indeed.

Aneas Corilius of Lindblum. I am at your service, kupo!
its something to do in a game that has little to do right now thats about it.
"Will FFXIV have enough subscribers to cover maintenance cost, payroll for devs and such, and make some extra?" that is why it matters.
It doesnt matter because SE obviously know it doesn't cover the cost, hell it doesn't cover a fraction of the cost. 200k/month is about 15 people's wages, and there is supposed to be 200 people working on it.
To think for a second that it matters at all is just silly, its SE blinding you. They just want to recover some money and likely have other reasons for it (share holders pissed? need a small income for other things? who knows).
SE know the exact figures and from these figures we see, SE seem very happy to make it p2p and continue on v2, so like mog said, it doesnt matter. SE know they are not making tons.
If you don't understand why having adequate server populations is important in a multiplayer game, I don't know what to say.
If that few people are playing now, even less will be playing when subscriptions start. I honestly would enjoy continuing to play until 2.0, but not if I can't enjoy any content because there's no one else to play with. And you can imagine the snowball effect if there any other people like me.
Its still a horrid business excuse. Why let potential long term players walk out the door and have that chance of never coming back because you want to make a quick buck? A Year is a huge time frame for someone o forget about an MMO on the rocks, or to find another one of the big MMOs and end up spending all their time on that instead. Keep the game free means everyone who has even a little interest can see the game get better and better until 2.0 and they have NO reason not to stay, because it dont cost them jack.It doesnt matter because SE obviously know it doesn't cover the cost, hell it doesn't cover a fraction of the cost. 200k/month is about 15 people's wages, and there is supposed to be 200 people working on it.

would you rather scrounge 1 year out of 10k people at 10$ or potentially get 5+ years out of double or triple that at 13$? Seems pretty obvious to me...
I'm concerned for all the E whores and furries, who will they manipulate and or rub up against?
I'm not shocked about the low numbers, just a bit upset. I want this game, more than any game, to be successful.
Cuz this game is very party centric and without enough players it just sucks.I mean, does it REALLY matter?
Or are you just trying to prove something?
Even if the game has 4k people total, who cares?
2.0 is still coming out weather 5 people or 5 million are playing. So your "discovering of the real numbers behind how many people are playing" isn't doing anything except making yourself feel like you discovered something amazing that will change the course of the game. But it wont.
Just play.
Love,
Mog
