    Deciding between classes

    Hello everyone.
I am looking for more experienced people to help me choose between samurai and summoner. I was wondering if people experienced in either of these jobs at higher levels, post 60 mainly could give me an insight of the strong points and downfalls each of these classes has and how they compare for group content 1-70.

    Thanks!

I dont fall in requirements category, but i can tell you what i know.

Sammurai is close range melee class with top dps IF (!!!) done right, meaning you have to adopt to situations and be flexible. Lots of people fail hard with sammurai
Summoner -well you know what i gona say here. Lots of people think its dps is no longer good, but Squere enix balanced classes arround new max level - 70. Therefore lvl 60 got bit broken...

These 2 classes dont really compare. From what i gather they balanced everything around lvl 70.

SAM is incredibly easy to pick up and play. However, the skill gap between a decent SAM and a great SAM is how good your ability is to forecast and execute the growth/spending of Kenki. No more so than when they hit level 70 and gain access to Guren.

Because of this, SAM can be extremely punishing to the player that (example): fails to plan and consistently has Guren sitting off cooldown - or decides that Kaiten would be better spent on Setsugekka than Higanbana during a boss fight. When DPS is the ONLY thing you bring to the table (aside a slashing debuff that WAR and NIN also have), you need to put up numbers to validate your existence.

SMN, I have no experience past 50 (yet). I've heard tell from that community that it has become much more about burst damage phases - and can be very punishing if you fail to line up your cooldowns and whatnot for those phases.

I think all jobs have the same issue. If you have poor resource management and spam buttons - you're going to have a bad day. If you're good at planning a few steps ahead of things - you should do great.

Please note, SAM is new. SMN has only had 2 weeks to process their changes. We need more time before the dust really settles.

Well I have found SAM to be very boring in dungeons under level 40. There are only like 3 skills for you to use. SAM is also a close range DPS so you will have to learn more about running away fron AOEs and stuff and placement behind enemy. It does do more damage though.

SMN I have found is very hard to use between levels 30-50. It is more of a "let your pet do damage while you cast spells at it from a distance." Most SMN spells also are more based on doing damage over time. However once you get to level 70, SMN does great damage. It is also helpful for solo stuff because you get a tank pet who can keep enemies off you.

Also depending what level you are, you will need to reach level 50 or 60. I forget which one to get SAM. So if you do not have a class at that level, I would choose Arcanist, turn that into SMN until you are able to get SAM. Then you will be able to try out both at about the same level.
