Returning player confused about how to become a BLM

    Hello

I used to play the game back when 2.0 was first launched got the free 30 days that anyone who brought the orginal ill fated 1.0 and but I never subcribed past the first 30 days. So it has been a very long time since I played the game.

But last night I got 30 on the my Thaumaturge now I know I have read somewhere that they done away with the sub class requirements for all job roles so I was expecting a quest to appear but I could not find one. I have been looking around online and cannot seem to find a answer the only thing I can see is that you now need to be level 60 and done a whole bunch of story quests to become a BLM or any advanced class now? Is that correct?

Nah, BLM should be available to any THM at 30, I should think. Since you haven't played in so long, you may want to confirm that you've completed all of your THM class quests at the guild in Ul'dah. You'll also need to complete the main story up to Sylph-Management around level 20. Those will be the only prerequisites for the BLM job quest to show up.

Thanks for the reply, I have done my level 30 class quest and got the manashield skill, the story quest might be the issue, I am just up to the point where I picked my company to represent. I will crack on with that tonight.

Yup. Sometimes gotta be clear on the class quests when some returning legacy players don't realize they still gotta go through them again (I think) even if they retained their class levels/skills through this Calamity.

if you did the class quests back in 1.0 you will need to re do them.

The 1st BLM quest is Thaumaturge guild which will point you in the direction of the BLM quest giver

Picking a company happens shortly before the quests that unlock the job stones(sylphic management for most classes), so thats a likely culprit. The quest seems rather arbitrary, but they probly picked it thinking that few people would be almost 10 levels ahead of the story by that point in the game. Honestly the level 30 ability isnt amazing for BLM. Maybe work on the story and when you get to 35 go back and get the stone plus do the 2nd quest while youre there? Its a thought.

Freeze at 35 isn't that useful, either. Manaward at 30 has gotten a little more useful since they rolled in -ward and -wall together, and Convert isn't entirely terrible.

I didnt mean to imply that Freeze was amazing either. Its on my bar, but its over in the corner that doesnt get used much. I was just putting forth the idea that you could make one trip later and cover multiple quests to catch up. Thaumaturge doesnt really fall that far back versus black mage until level 40. Leveling up i rarely used convert(now its part of my big opener and part of my aoe rotation), and ward is almost the definition of a situational skill(in a dungeon with a good team it should almost never be needed). Neither is terrible, but i still dont think either is amazing. The next 3 job rewards(and yeah, when i leveled up most of these werent actually job quest rewards but things change) are the ones that really make a difference - Bliz 3, Thun 3, and Flare. Those are the amazing ones.

But aside from the ability, the job stone also comes with stat boosts, and those are nice.

Yes, the story requirement I thought was rather pointless. My GLD is level 31 and I haven't even got to the point where you join the Scions yet.

Yes, the scepter is most certainly an instrument of death. Your death, you valorous fool! Remember the first lesson.
