Ok I'm on Balmung.... I know I know... anyway I started noticing some rpers in town the last few nights who were rping as vampires. Not totally new but the atmosphere of Balmung has kept their numbers seriously low. So seeing so many all of a sudden I had to ask. So I asked one.... very politely what's with all the vamps. He had to go but answered that it was lore now do to Red Mage.


Anyone mind filling me in on this? As a Balmung guy I like to be up to date even if I don't rp a certain way. And also I know what vamps do to rp from my time in ESO so I'm really trying not to judge here.

Go do the RDM job quests. Something along the lines of if your don't maintain the balance of Black/White Mana, you become Mana Starved or something and become like a Vampire, needing to feed on the aether of others. As WoL we don't succumb to that because of plot armor, instead...if our Black/White mana are imbalanced by more than 30 (i think), we generate 50% less mana in whichever color we have less of until the balance is corrected (and as shown by the crystal in our job gauge changing from Red (correct and near balanced) to Blue (imbalanced).

I would go do the quests if I had time. But between the 3000 queue, random dcing, and a 6 day work week, it'll be a while before I can.

Okay since you don't mind spoilers

LONG back when the white and black mages came together to start making Red magic, some of the Black Mages purposed summoning voidsent and drinking their blood, giving them great power. However those who did this would become mana-starved if they used too much in too short a time, causing them to because no more then hungry beasts preying on others to regain mana. Thus the practice was forbidden.

It should be noted it is NOT lore that Red Mages are vampires. You can if you want, but our powers have nothing to do with it.

Any weaknesses like gradanian garlic, holy fluid aura, or sunlight i should know about? Again just curious as I wont be getting to RDM for a bit. Maybe a website or something with info?

No weaknesses like that, but those who undergo the process can barley to not at all use white magic. As well the more aether depleted they are the more berserk they become.

Also their hair turns red, cause reasons.

Also it can be undone because to maintain the aether vampire abilities the voidsent who's blood was used HAS to remain summoned. Kill/banish the sent. And the contract is broken.
