    DRK vs WAR Sustainability

    So who wins this battle?

I'm new to playing DRK, however, I loved WAR pre-SB. As WAR I could easily sustain much longer than I ever have been able to on DRK.

I was in the Castle Dungeon and on the second boss, the Samurai that spawns clones, we all got killed...EXCEPT a random WAR tank. The boss was at roughly 30% HP and the WAR solo'ed him the rest of the way. I've never seen a WAR or DRK do this like him. The WAR never fell below 50% HP! I never asked him how he did it, and the ONLY thing he said throughout the entire dungeon was "I really miss Bloodbath.."

I was always told that DRK is the self healing tank. While PAL is a mit tank, and WAR was high health and dps. I did notice that the WAR had on all STR gear, with STR mareria..

Can anyone tell me how he pulled this off? Is DRK able to do this? Who's better at self sustain?

Healing pots are still a thing, and while tank jobs lost access to Bloodbath, WAR still has Equilibrium, Thrill of Battle, an array of defensive buffs, and HP restoration through Inner Beast and Storm's Path.

You can boost the heal on Equilibrium by using it in tandem with Berserk, since the self-heal scales with attack power. Bully on you if it crits; you stand to get back 22-25k HP if so, and that ability is only on a 60s cooldown. IB and SP heals while 'zerk is running are still nothing to laugh at, and while it's tougher to sustain without Bloodbath, it's not impossible, depending on the fight - especially on fights where bosses spend a lot of time locked in animations and there isn't a lot of consistent damage going out.

I've survived and finished bosses more than once since 4.0 dropped. It's nice to know I'm still very hard to kill. but yeah, I miss bloodbath...

DRK has garbage self healing atm.
WAR has something semi decent, but of course PLD has more self healing.
The only difference is that WAR can keep fighting while self healing, but not very often at all.

There are a few bosses I can solo w/o my group as DRK, but there are even more I can do it as WAR and PLD.

As for how we do it, depends on the difficulty.
When I soloed a boss on 60 DRK, i sat there AFK a bit, then i was typing for a bit, all while thinking I couldnt win w/o my group.
Came back from a few seconds of not looking at the screen, and was still near max HP, and realize the boss just doesnt do any dmg outside of ground AoEs.

Usually just requires a boss to be faceroll easy for DRK to solo it.

Yo, Bloodbath is nice and everything, but have you guys ever stopped to consider that, in situations like these, even if you did use Bloodbath and started healing back your HP, you'd still be losing HP because you're tanking the boss?

In situations where you're not getting hit and need to get HP back, yes - Bloodbath will be missed. But in situations like these, the amount of damage you're preventing by using Rampart, should be pretty close to how much HP you would have gotten back by using Bloodbath. In other words, we lost Bloodbath but got Rampart.

As for how that Warrior pulled this off... Inner Beast, Storms Path, Equilibrium... and managing his cooldowns properly. A lot of the boss dungeons do very little damage if you dodge everything properly. And currently, having STR accessories gives you more sustain than your VIT, since your heals will be stronger except for Thrill of Battle.

bloodbath stands to gain effectiveness from berserk, and can stack with another defensive cd without losing any effectiveness, or gaining more with vengeance. Its also the only cooldown that gets stronger by being in dps stance

Yes PLD has more self healing with clemency. It's just a massive DPS loss to use it. WAR and DRK self heal through it's regular rotation and WAR can heal off the gcd which is also a big deal. Is worth noting at least.

Thanks guys! I wasn't aware that the Path rotation healed?

I use Equilibrium, Thrill of Battle but I wasn't aware I had other options. As for DRK, it seems that on a solo mob, Soul Eater is the way to go, and on a group, Abyssal Drain does the trick..Outside of those abilities, that seems to be it at the moment, right?
