I'm against name/race change just because I know people will take advantage of it.
I agree with you on the paid name change and server change options. They both make sense.Payment options
1-Change your name
2-Change server
3-Change Race
Free options
1-Barber shop ( Can change hairstyle/color in town with gils)
2-Calendar in game to note events for LS
3-pets that walk with you can't attack and can't be attacked just for fun
i would like to see new hair styles , not a copy/paste from FFXI
I also agree with the ingame barber. As mentioned, it is believed they're already considering this for the futre.
I'm not a huge fan of race change. Imagine chatting up some cute miq'ote one day, then the next day they show up as a subligar wearing roegadyn!?!?! I can see how some people might want to change their character completely some time down the line. Hell, I've even done it myself in other games. But still... Roegadyn... Subligar... ewwww.....
I would like to say hell no to cosmetic pets. The game is very demanding on most graphics cards at the moment without all those extra pets running around too.

I am strongly against pets in FFXIV - next thing you'll get is the standard mount-competition and soon there's wow all over again.
100% against pets.
Hair style changes, yes
Character redo for those who have had a change of heart, yes
Server transfer, yes.
Rockne, you are my hero. :-)
There seems to be a bit of a WoW-phobia around where ideas, no matter how good, can be dismissed offhand simply because WoW or another MMO has done something similar. It comes down to just a simple knee-jerk reaction.
The OP has some excellent suggestions, ones that I think FFXIV could benefit greatly from by implementing. God knows, I - for one - would absolutely love to change my character's hair. >.> (Vanity, thy name is Celyia.)
On another note, I'm not sure where the entire idea of pets arose from in these posts, but I wanted to throw an idea out there. While I don't think the WoW model of non-combat pets would work for FFXIV (and, honestly, I wouldn't want it to), what I would love to see is a non-combat pet along the lines of a path companion.
Imagine a non-combat pet that you actually have emotional interest in. For those of you who played FFXI, consider it along the lines of raising your own chocobo. I think something like this could be very attractive to a lot of players. Mind you, I am not making any suggestion about this being done immediately, but as an alternative to the non-combat pet system some people may be asking for.
I agree. Most games have a barber shop now, and I suggested one WAY before WoW got one. They can add more stuff to it. Just keep some of the ffxi hair styles unless you ad cuter miqo'te piggy tails like from lalafell.
Many ad clan only looks also like dunesfolk lalafell only hair styles.
i like the idea of the barber shop and server transfer, but do not like the pet or race idea. people should be able to move to another server if they get contact with friends from other games to allow a more friendly environment imo. if someone goes into a barbershop and wants a different highlight or hair color it's more like rl. the pet idea would fit some, but i'd be annoyed at the numerous pets in the way. if you start as a race i feel you should continue as that race. you cannot go into a doctors office and become another race if you dislike it you chose that originally and would not like that being changed.

Some hairstylists, and maybe even tattooists, would be pretty groovy in my opinion. I have commitment issues, even cosmetically.
Also be perfect for those small groups of two/three people, who become real close in game (or are outside game) and they can get matching haircuts/tattoos and pretend to be in a gang, or something more ridiculous
