The reset happened right as my bf was trying to log in after work. We just transferred from Balmung to Cactaur. He was 429 and I was 309 logging in five minutes later. Our queues lasted about three minutes each. If this succeeds in helping others get in and play, it's not a big deal imho.
Amazing how much complaining there is about 10 minute downtime to attempt to solve the problem where people are waiting for > 2k people queues due to people abusing the system to stay online permanently preventing others from logging on
About these Afkers "crafting" or staring at NPCs or MB etc... Why not a kind of countdown? IF People there Avatar dont move a tiny bit for 10-30mins (or go on Auto Walk or Macro jump) a pop up window shows up with a 20sec countdown! Its says like "Your charackter havent move for a while! To lessens server stress You will be logged out Automaticly if you dont click the 'Im active' button" <.<
It already does that. If you're AFK for 30 minutes, you get a pop up telling you will be logged out in 20 seconds. But they just used the same command as you use to log out yourself with system->log out. Try to craft or whatever, and then try to manually log out. You get an error message saying that you can't do that right now. That's exactly the same thing that happens with the AFK auto log out when you're crafting or interacting with stuff. AFKers don't get kicked off while crafting, talking to an NPC, etc because the game is set up to not let you log out at those times.About these Afkers "crafting" or staring at NPCs or MB etc... It's probably to do with how the instance servers are set up...39 pages, and nobody has explained why this shouldn't just be Balmung only. This literally isn't a thing that mattered on any other server.
I mean, if this is good for Balmung players -- and sounds like it is -- then great!
But this is pointless on most other servers. This just means there will now be a random period when we're all booted for 10 minutes. That isn't a good thing! There is no reason for that to happen on normally populated servers.
They probably can't take down the housing stuff without taking down the whole thing, since the housing is likely seperate from the world server and shared between all servers.
Thus, all those people hiding in their houses need to be purged as well.

It has to be done DC wide because you'll end up with the problem where you're in a dungeon and suddenly half your party vanishes because Balmung was rebooted, and then DF queue will go a bit nuts. Easier to just reset everything at the same time.
The better question is why isn't this just being applied to the Aether DC and the others are left alone?

100% servers crash and they go "what?! how did this happen? 3,000 people logging in all at the SAME FUCKING TIME?! It's like launch day all over again!"
