    Monk 4.0 Opener/ Rotation?

    Hello Guys

my friend needs help. he needs a 4.0 monk Rotation (Opener and more important: Standard Rotation after opener).

We found lot of pre 4.0 Opener, but he only gets around 2.7k dps instead of >3.4k for susano ex. Main problem is the standard rotation also.

    Any help? Thank you !

I believe its like it was with pre SB MNK - keep up the buffs: GL, Demolish, Twin. I also think you use Riddle and Brotherhood as they come off cool down, Forbidden as available. Since Brotherhood and Riddle are both on a 90sec cool down you should have a burst similar to the opener every 90 secs. I am a SAM main first and foremost and admittedly haven't been able to invest as much time in MNK, but what I have relayed to you is what I have gathered from a popular theory crafting website. I would personally consider it reliable info, but a MNK main might be able to provide better personal experience.

(edit) Gonna add this in as an example of the standard 3.0 MNK rotation for reference, obviously ignore the old opener and know we have a few new skills.

Yeah, the opener that Chronons provided is pretty much perfect. It's actually better than mine... -steals-

Anyway! Monk doesn't really have a normal rotation as much as it works off of a priority system. For each stance you have one of 2 options, in the vast majority of cases. You technically have 3, but the 3rd are weird, situational, and probably better off not being on your hotbar.

When in Opo-Opo form (henceforth referred to as 1st stance), you refresh or apply Dragon Kick if it's about to fall off. If Dragon Kick is fine, you do Bootshine. This brings you to the second step!
When in Raptor form (2nd stance), you refresh Twin Snakes if it's about to fall off. If Twin Snakes is fine, you use True Strike. This brings you to the third and final step of the complex monk rotation.
When in Coeurl form (3rd stance), you refresh Demolish if it's about to fall off. If Demolish is fine, you use Snap punch. This returns you to step one, where you play the priority system game once again.

Other than that, the other obvious stuff is that you want to keep your OGCDs on cooldown. Judging from your friend's damage output, this is probably stuff he already knows, but honestly... That's kind of all there is to it. Monk isn't a class of rotations, or memorization. It's a job of consistency and fight knowledge. You need to be able to safely use your positionals, have good enough buff control to weave in your higher potency skills, and know when to use your situational stuff like Tornado Kick and Riddle of Earth. Bootshine is exceptionally important to land now, as hitting the positional remains one of the only ways outside of Internal Release to really shore up your pure RNG when it comes to deep meditation, and chakra stacks.

From the sounds of it, your friend probably just needs to tighten up his positionals, skill usage, and a few other min-maxy things that Monk gets to do. For instance, when Susano drops those water AoEs on the ground and everybody's forced out of melee range, that's a solid 2-3 seconds where you could gather a few chakras while you're not using your GCDs for anything else. This was always the case before, but it's even more important now that we actually gain Chakras passively, and not needing to get two more lucky crits until your next Forbidden Chakra is actually a ton of hidden damage.

The only other thing I can think of is that you need to make sure that he's using both Brotherhood and Riddle of Fire at the same time. They share the same CD, and Brotherhood makes up for the Riddle of Fire attack speed slow by letting the Monk put out pretty hilarious amounts of Forbidden Chakra potency during the slow period. They should basically just be kept on cooldown 100% of the time, since it's a huge power spike for Monk, and it's painful to let it slip away.

It's just one of those things that comes with time. Monk is, without question, the most heavily punished melee for underperformance or failure of a mechanic, and it can take time to get up to the level where you're keeping up with the truly top level DPS. Try not to let your friend get discouraged, Monk's an awesome job that can hang with the best of them, and it feels *incredible* when you do it properly.

hey there! I actually have a Different opener That has been netting me over 5000 DPS for an opener, and keeping me close to 4000 DPS as long as i dont let DoTs fall off and keep brother hood up every now and again.

I use this Opener, just in case anyone wants something different! It hits really hard, and with tanks Aggro fix, the use of Diversion isnt really needed in most Raids for monks, since we tend to do a significant much less damage in our openers than other Classes. This is just my Two cents though.

Communication is key too. Make sure your team knows they need to stay relatively close for brotherhood, so you can get your Chakra Stacks. If you are in a Long fight, where keeping up Greased lightning isnt hard, try to use Dragon Kick everytime Perfect balance is off cooldown.

    Sooooo 2 questions:
    1) in Chronon's opener, why the extra true strike in the begining and not apply the potion ealier (like right when GL3 happens)?

    2) in Viral's opener, why so long before first FC or even why now double weave after RoF?

In Chronon's you're still in perfect balance so true strike would be the strongest gcd you could do if it crits(I prefer using bootshine there instead, but true strike is possibly technically better). In Viral's the first fc comes after twin snakes is up. Here's my opener for comparison to both http://ffxivrotations.com/xpd
