Map question

I just switched servers and started a new character to play with some friends. On my other character my map followed me from zone to zone and I never had to touch it. Now on my current character my map doesn't follow me and every time I change zones I have to hit the center on character button so I can see the new zone I am in and see myself on the map. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere that will fix this?

If you access the map from the journal or duty list, it will show you where your objective is. Otherwise, it will show you where you are.

I keep my map open on the screen and it dulls out when I move, it works fine as long as I don't go to a different map area, once I move to a different map area it stops following me and only shows the previous map area.

Ah. Yes, that makes sense. You could just close the map and open it again for it to switch to your current area. You can also control the transparency settings (how transparent, whether it becomes opaque again when you stop). But yeah, there's not currently an option to have it automatically switch to a different map when you change areas (the mini map always does this, of course).
