No it don't need to be nerfed, you and the group just need to learn the fight and not go tunnel vision.
As soon as i got the MSQ for it i signed up for duty finder > waited for pop > got in > we wiped 3-4 times as many ( me too ) had to learn the fight and we killed it on the 4 or 5 try.

I'd rather see them buff previous dungeons. The only problem with Shinryu is that it's a huge difficulty *jump* from previous content. It's not overly hard, but it is a big step up from previous dungeon content, and that needs to change. Please lower the difficulty of the ffxiv royal menagerie trial. I spent over 12 hours non stop with several parties of all kinda trying to clear this content however its simply Impossible to beat unless I spent Millions in Gil to buy a clear from people who managed to beat it. This game has been a great thing to bring people together and have fun but this latest trial fight has made the game impossible to play I even tried beating it with the 140+ member FC I am part of and simply It just cannot be beaten even with understanding of all the mechanics of the fight he deals far too much damage repeatedly. Please Lower this difficulty or make trials like this completely optional and no longer part of the story line as its ruining a game I have played since 1.0
Also, they really shouldn't c*ckblock the Tomestone gear behind the Shinryu fight. It limits the available gearing options for people who are struggling to complete it. I myself would have felt a lot better if I'd known I could queue for daily Roulettes for a week-ish at level 70 to improve my ability to tackle the final Trial.
Edit: As an aside, people claiming that they got through it easily therefore it isn't too hard are missing the point. The fight is significantly more difficult than other MSQ content, and it is not a trivial challenge. It's being biased and snobbish to suggest that the OP's complaints are invalid and that the fight is easy / has no need of being nerfed. That's simply not true. SE did f*ck up the difficulty of this one. I'd argue that it's because of the jump rather than the objective level, but to claim that the fight is perfectly fine is to demonstrate a tremendous ignorance of game balance.
Second Edit: The OP's request is also, in fairness, quite overblown. Knee-jerk reactions to nerf content are a central problem for FFXIV, and should be avoided at all costs. Smooth increases in difficulty are the way to go. Nerfing fights to the floor isn't helpful.

I agree with your viewpoint. Don't nerf the content, but if the difficulty spike is too much as you said, then I agree with smoothing out the difficulty increase as the content goes up. But that individual fight should stay at the same difficulty. Indeed, in Heavensward it went easy from 51-55, then 57 had a sudden difficulty spike, then easy again for 59 onwards... err... what?
White Mage ~ Scholar ~ PaladinBoi if you got kicked for the same thing in over 20 duties I strongly suggest you think hard on whatever the hell it is you're doing
As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.
First party I got they abandoned after the second failure. Second group we completed it on the second try. The second group had at least 4 brand new players to the trial. As someone who doesn't usually take part in extreme or savage stuff, even I found this workable.
They will have to nerf this though if they want players to keep subbing. Do I want it nerfed? I don't care, I've done it pre-nerf. But if it means keeping more people subbed then SE will have to go that route. A lot of players are going to give up on the game entirely if they can't even advance past the 4.0 story. Why stay subbed when they feel locked out of any future updates.
Unfortunatly people will also quit if everything is braindead easy. The trick is striking a balance so things feel "somewhat" challenging but not impossible, which imo is what that fight is (also considering who it is... it should)(...) I have to say when you go in blind, that first run will be scary but we need to avoid the knee jerk reactions. I don't think it's THAT difficult and i've only done it once. wiped about 5x but we worked together to beat it. I was mind blown in several ways, but the biggest mindblown was how cooperative we were and sharing information on how to do mechanics.
There's something very rewarding when you have a party who is actively working together and you see them improve try after try.
I get the feeling that the amount that would quit because they can't advance the story will far outweigh those that will quit because a single story mission was nerfed. People still have their extremes and the like, so it's not as if there's no other content that requires skill.
This on the other hand blocks further progression in the story for those less able. People constantly go on about "this is a story-driven game", and that is what many have said they play it for. Block casuals (less able/effort) this early on in an expansion and then people can't get upset when SE start using Mogstation to sell even more things to make up the shortfall, putting stuff up that should be in the game in the first place.
Not nerfing it isn't going to stop the sea of shitty players you meet who can't be bothered in normal expert roulette runs and the like.
Less skilled players will naturally start to clear it more often as the average item level of those who know what they're doing gets higher. As their item level gets higher, it becomes easier for them to carry others on their back through the content.I get the feeling that the amount that would quit because they can't advance the story will far outweigh those that will quit because a single story mission was nerfed. Many "Story driven games" still prevent you from proceeding unless you "git gud" and beat the content. This isn't early into the content, it's literally the end of the current expansion right now. People have no excuse for failing the final trial. There's 70 levels worth of content to teach them everything they need to know to get through it.
But then they're just getting carried anyway, which kind of defeats the point of not nerfing it. If not a nerf then the Verity equipment could be made available upon completing the level 70 dungeon that precedes this. You already start earning that anyway.
This will just be another Steps of Faith. People will do a trial roulette > Get This > Eat The 30 minutes > Others follow
I think the only appropriate remark for a topic such at this is: get good?
Like it's a challenging fight, but it's fun and with effort you can make it through it. You pay a subscription to this game, so that it will continue pumping out worthwhile content to play. Seriously, the only solution here is for you to improve yourself. Pay attention more and gear up more. The fight isn't impossible, it's just hard and that's awesome. Everyone complained that Weeping City of Mhach was too difficult because of Ozma, and while yes that is optional content, it's still content that people were able to eventually get through that S-E didn't nerf. And people really wanted a nerf for that raid. People won't unsub because of this fight lmao, and if they do, then they're saving the rest of the player-base forum topics like this in the future.
