    Tips for FC/Friends

    Hey all,

So I've been playing mmos for a while now (as we all have) and one thing I've been bad at is joining a guild (or in this case free companies). Ive always considered myself a solo player and kinda doing my own thing when I want to. I've tried guilds in the past on other games but got really turned off to them due to the feeling of having to log in everyday and having to meet certain requirements (like having to recruit X amount of people weekly) or being called a bad player if I make a mistake and being told to quit and get off.

That all being said I absolutely love ff14 it's better then the others I've played and I can only imagine what I'd be like to have others online to play and hangout with especially if it means I'm able to do even harder content with people who aren't as hostile towards learners.

Any tips for a shy casual solo player looking to branch out and make new friends? I'm able to clear end game raids pretty easily but have been known to make mistakes

Seek out people who want fun over progress. Raid centric groups are notorious for issues and splits and are usually very concentrated on raiding. Decide what you want out of the game and use party finder or shouts to ask for a good FC. Whatever you do, don't force yourself to stay if you don't have fun. Find people to enhance your game that fit your play style.

My guild is raid centric and we've been together for 7~ years. We moved from SWTOR to FFXIV for ARR launch(though we didn't fully commit to FFXIV for awhile). Of course there's been shifts in power during the years but we've had the same core going on 4 years now.

or being called a bad player if I make a mistake and being told to quit and get off.
That aside, you sound like me many years ago. I tried to join friend groups and sometimes I was semi-successful... but then someone would upset me and I'd leave and be alone again. So I bettered myself as a player and toughened up. Grew a thick skin and stayed in a group through the good and the bad -- and here I am. Whenever I log on I usually get instantly invited to things, or people fight over my attention. I actually covet the free time I have where people aren't trying to grab my attention.

So I guess my advice is to keep trying. Work through your anxiety, try to understand why people lash out sometimes and slowly build bonds with people regardless of their flaws and your flaws. Find a guild where you don't have to meet x requirements(that you don't like). I have no doubt you'll be successful, it just might take some time.

As for finding a guild... look in PF or put up a PF for exactly what you're looking for. You can also look for LS' because they can be just as good as FCs.

EDIT: I think people might advertise their FCs on these forums too? Might be worth looking into.
