I wonder what the price difference will be if you want to move up.

Clearly there is some confusion. Don't think about it as "trading" your house. When you use the move feature the following is happening:

A) You walk up to a new plot and purchase the plot for FULL PRICE as if you currently owned nothing
B) The game automatically demolishes your old house/plot and moves everything to your new plot

So you pay full price for the new plot and get nothing but the contents moved from your old plot (aka you lose your gil investment from the old plot as if you yourself clicked on demolish.)

The prices for plots supposedly are not changing so the current rates for the plots will apply to the new area.
