Most class rotations are subject to change. Even the one Im using for Sam. coupled with new encounters, dps takes a back seat while most try to figure out mechanics, and some fights mechanics inhibit dps extremely SusanoEx being one simply because of the sheer amount of movement and mechanics that have you off the boss for more than 5 seconds if you're a melee

Have only healed in ffxiv so far (have sometimes done DPS in other games) but here is something to consider.

Yes, some players play as they want as long as they clear content. Some don't care and want to be carried.

Yet, some are new or returning players. Some are new to a particular dps class. Some are adjusting to class changes and lower relative gear levels and new dungeon mechanics. Some have physical challenges from injury or illness. Some get nervous under pressure to perform. Some are doing rotations that are outdated or that they read about online that were never good to start with. And on and on.

As others pointed out not everyone understands how MMOs have traditionally worked or what more experienced players expect. In another popular MMORPG title I've been in, you can do basic weapon attacks (quick tap for light attack, hold for heavy attack) in addition to the abilities on your bar. That game has no halls of the novice or anything at all. And I've seen DPS in that just spam heavy or light attacks in dungeons because they came from a single-player or co-op shooter background.

Regarding why I haven't tried DPS in this game yet? Because I know that there are rotations for better play, and my first choice would be Summoner since I have Scholar leveled. I would need to run group content, probably leveling dungeons then some 50/60s, to gear up. And other players will wonder why I stink, because they will see I am not new and that I am level 60+ for Arcanist. Yes, I did look up a Summoner guide last year when I started playing and it read like "Use A, B, C, then D, except for situations 2 and 3, in which case either start back at A or skip D to go to E, F, and sometimes G if now back to situation 4. Then restart the sequence, unless it's a boss fight in which case... <10 more pages>"

Maybe it isn't really that bad once you get some practice in, but why bother with super-long queues to be griefed for lower than desired numbers? Who will be more likely to try that, to use one class as an example? Someone who knows how much work it will be but doesn't have the time or patience or desire to be mocked or those who either don't know or don't care? And many of the latter type of players will just go on their own to figure it out and will become halfway competent yet defensive about being criticized while others will just ignore the criticism and get carried. Some of the former type will be lucky to have friends in the game help out or will have the patience to memorize just when and how to do what. The point? Everyone approaches the game their own way. Who knows what makes sense to them or sounds fun to them? There is no one-sized fits all answer. SE wants the game to be more accessible, not less, so that means pugs will come in all types.

I do understand why it is frustrating when someone doesn't do their job as efficiently or one wishes. I wish tanks wouldn't stroke their e-peens and wipe groups to rush a dungeon by pulling everything at once when they can't handle it even if I pop every cool-down I have, but that's me. Still, we don't always know why people play how they play. That one-handed gamer or the one who's partly blind may have practiced for hours to get that "sub-par" performance that far. Or that Bard watching porn while in your dungeon run may be playing one-handed for other reasons.

I've been in favor of adding more complex scenarios to the practice instances as people have suggested for a while now, not sure it will happen. A player-drive option is also possible, like party finder groups for roulettes advertised to players who want to learn/get advice/complete content without rushing or judgement (one game I've played had a few guilds made solely for that purpose, which was fine since you could be in more than one for other activities). If they don't even respond in chat to advice or suggestions they get kicked for lying about why they wanted to join the run.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is "why?" is open-ended in this case. And also, please make a noob's noob guide to Summoner. And beware the one-handed Bard. And assorted other things. Or whatever. Kind of got off track there.

You have 90 minutes for a dungeon. So if you cant make it in this time, you fail. Everything else is success, just to varying degrees of exceptionalism. We are all pretty exceptional, anyway. Also, the game does not require me to play a good rotation to clear all content. Why would I ? Maybe I dont want to be stressed out, playing correctly and without creativity and fun so we clear 2 minutes quicker? Sometimes I am already so bored from the hour-long DPS queue, I started a movie and some good scenes come up, so I might prefer paying attention to that, because you know, its MY leisure time to spend as I want?

Healers dont DPS, tanks dont DPS, so why should DPS perform to the maximum of their abilities? We ll get through the dungeon, no worries, stop annoying me.

If playing your class to it's maximum potential stresses you out, I think you have bigger problems. I can't understand the mind-set of wanting to play sub-optimally because it somehow causes you distress. Also, If your attention is focused on something else when you signed up to do group oriented content and you are not contributing as much as you could be, then you need to either leave or be removed and replaced with someone who wants to be there and contribute to the group. It stops becoming only YOUR leisure time the moment you join group content. Sorry but the groups leisure time is greater than your own, If that is your attitude then you need to stay out of group content.

Well I don't know about everyone else but after working for 10 hours. Then queuing for 2-3 hours to get on the server. Then queuing for another hour + to get into chosen dungeon. By which time it's past my bedtime so I'm not usually at my best. But there is nothing I can do about that at the moment so if you meet me in a dungeon sorry but you'll just have to deal with it.

I can say the same thing about Tanks. All their Defensive cooldowns up at once then get tanked and blame the healer when they die because 1 they lost aggro 2 they died. DPS the only issue I have with DPS is when they fail to get out of AoEs ffs... big red circle means get out not just stand there and take the hit.
