Dark knight as dps?

Hey guy,

I started playing ffxiv cause i saw a picture of a dark knight and immediately loved it. The armor and everything was just perfectly badass looking and knew it would fit my playstyle of being a straight up dps hack and slash going all out with force.

Plot twist: turned out its a tank. so i was like well thats odd, doesnt seem like the looks or style of a tank but ok. So i looked at other options and voila! the warrior! a fighting beast with a giant 2h axe! That must be the dps i was looking for if drk is not an option. Nop. Also a tank!

I absolutely hate spears in all games but it seems for players who hate robes and leather armor and stuff we have no choice in dps except drg. I know we just got 2 new dps classes so im not holding my breath to get a cool armored dps class in like forever, so was wondering, can drk be played as dps in parties? without tank stance or focusing on enmity, would his dps be anywhere near actual dps classes?

No. Dark knight is a tank. If that wasn't enough, in the cases where the duty takes two tanks but only one is needed in reality, Warrior usually takes the off-tank spot. But they both tank most of the time.

oh i just thought of a possibility, could those mirror items that change the looks of a piece of armor be used to have a sam with the drk armor looks?

Yes you can make a SAM look similar to a DRK, but the amount of "Armor" that a SAM can wear is limited.
My healers, and Casters wear platemail, but the amount of platemail I have available is extremely low on casters, less low on healers, and actually plentiful on SAM/MNK.

You'd be surprised how much armor there is for SAM, you just need to go seek it out, and build a small collection, so you can make the perfect outfit.

Though some pieces dont look well together, so its hard to build the perfect outfit, until newer pieces come out.
(Some pieces are limited time only, such as the platemail I use for healer/caster, it was a limited time event item, and the prior platemail was an armor from 1.0 that all classes could wear.)

There's some decent sets for SAM/MNK that are somewhat armored. But, I feel ya. I'd like to see a slightly more armored set in the future

You can't have that either, you can only change the look into one your current job can equip, but you can indeed change the color and try getting a piece of cloth that would suit your style (for exemple, as a mage I did an outfit that makes me think of a SEED from FF8, which is really cool as I don't wanna look like a typical mage and SEEDs are educated to be using their weapon and magic at the same time, which kinda fits a bit the Red mage I currently am).

I didn't realize it before but you're kinda right, if you like to do dmg while wearing metal armors, then you have not a lot of choice than fighting with a spear.

But you know, tanks are still strong, and in this game all classes are actually dps + another thing. Tanks and healers are asked to dps and to do their job (priority to their main job of course, but at least for tanks, getting aggro is still something that needs to attack, and no one likes healers that just "slack heal" (like just doing nothing like an afk and just heal when needed, those are stupids).
So yea, you still can have a feeling of hurting bad with a warrior, and you will feel like leading the team, which is great if you do it well. You will never be 1rst at dps as it's the DPS role, but don't worry, gameplaywise, you're still asked to do the most dmg you can with your class while still getting enough aggro by hurting enemies (but you'll piss people off if you lose aggro because you was too focused on your pure dmg skills).

There's still glam options for a more armored look for any DoW, eg from GC gear. Though, heavier armor is kind of DRG's signature.

there are some armors for Nin, Mnk, Sam as well... pvp Garo Gear f.e. and other (older) raid gear - not that much variation than on tanks but at least an option if you like "heavy" armors...

Garo actually looks kinda cool! what are the name of the other ones so i can google them and consider playing sam after all

just look up raid gear, a lot of people like the allagan set still and the Gordian set is very heavy looking as well there are plenty of options out there for tanks to look tanky
