SE really just needs to spend some time playing WoW specifically to check out the wardrobe and transmog system, then import it in a way that makes sense for FFXIV.

Then they clearly don't have the slightest clue about the target audience for an MMO. Those dungeons and raids they release every content patch can only last for so many runs, glamour and housing are the primary attractors during the vastly longer interim periods. To not put glamour as one of the highest priorities is just... terrible.

Wild star also had a pretty great glamour system where you had a separate set of glamour slots you just dropped gear into and no matter what your actual gear looked like, you instead looked as though you were wearing the gear in your glamour slots.
I'd love for each job to have its own glamour slots or the option to select which glamour load out each job uses.

They should just hire a small team to do the QoL stuff if they really want to only focus on useless content that gets replaced every other patch.
Well that's what they need to do (redo it from scratch) and it needs to be on their damn priority list. Fixing the glamour system and improving inventory management (glamour log please) would guarantee my subscription in perpetuity.
They've actually improved it as of a year or two ago. The Holo-wardrobe saves armor skins, and you just select whatever skin you want for each outfit. You can save up to twelve outfits and swap between them whenever you wish. You can also use any class of armor.

The easiest method would be to take the Unique modifier off of tome and raid gear, much like your duplicate suggestion. Of course this kills the inventory, but it's better than nothing.
I feel this with the tanks more than anything. I often want PLD and WAR to have different looks
Even "Greedy Money Grubbing F2P EA owned" SWTOR took the time to put in a nice and easy outfit system, Once upon a time they even had a worse glamour/transmog system then anyone has ever experienced, You had to spend millions to rip mods out of your current outfit then you had to spend even more putting the mods into the armor you wanted for glamour then a simple update turned ALL that into a easy to use cost efficient drag and drop system=Take the armor you like drag it onto the appropriate body part pay 2000 credits hit save and voila you can use that outfit whenever
I know that this isnt on the top list of priorities atm but good lord there are plenty of things that F2P MMOs just does better vs this Sub-Based MMO
PS3 Limitations are out, Server Limitations are the new Hotness

I would love if they would tie the glamour system into gearsets. While many people would love different designs for each job (I do too), I would love to be able to use a couple of designs for the same job as well.
Making it so you use the gearsets to do it would help in my opinion. The gearset system already knows which vanity and materia you assigned to it (remove the vanity from the item in a gearset and when you change it will tell you it can't find it) so I imagine there must be a way somehow to have it overwrite the glamour selected on the gear once you change gearset.
But nonetheless I would love to see a change like above and in these posts. As much as I love my White Mage robes ... I hate the fact when I change I keep seeing the tome gears on my Scholar.
This needs to be implemented, badly.
Like it or not, XIV's appeal is largely cosmetic. This is why the cash shop does so well and people are willing to pay half the price of an entire expansion for one armor set.
Taking that fact into account, I'm honestly surprised there aren't more resources being dedicated to revamping the glamour system in light of the fact that glamour is so important to the community of this game. It is also fairly telling of the failure of the glamour system in XIV that much older games (even FFXI) have a more flexible glamour system.
Even players who don't care as much about glam must feel annoyed when they glam a cool armor set onto their main job and have to suffer looking at some ugly mishmash (I'm looking at you new Omega+Ala Mhigo gear) the times they want to play a job that shares that gearset. For me personally, I had to deal with this on my AST main yesterday when I got WHM to 70 and had to ditch my beautiful new AST AF gear for a far inferior glam just so I can also suit up WHM in something that I don't find ugly.
I mean, is it as important as new content? Probably not. But it is a pretty important aspect of the game that they haven't fixed yet.
I kind of wish we could just use the glamour prisms as an equip item. Wear the outfit you want > Use glamour prism + name it > Equip it. Want to have a different look for same role? Just swap prisms.
May take a few slots but I think I could dedicate a few slots to just custom outfits that I can swap on the fly.
