When Stormblood came out, SE made some changes (apparently rather significant ones by the sound of it) to the PS4 display in order to support High Definition from a PS4 Pro. Those changes had an unintended side effect of drastically shrinking the dialog window and main menu. They're working to fix it, but there are a couple workarounds you can use in the meantime.
Alternative 1:
You can go into System Configuration, change "User Interface Size" to 150%, then set "Default UI Size" something more reasonable, like 100% and click "Apply All".
If you go this route, it's a good idea, as Rongway mentioned, to save your previous HUD layout using a secondary HUD slot.
Downsides to this alternative: Other things you cannot resize through HUD Layout are increased to 150% their normal size, most notably the nameplates above characters/creatures heads. And if you'd personalized your HUD, it might need some rearranging to get things back where you want them.
Alternative 2:
You can resize the dialog box by itself, though only for the current login session, by right-clicking it, and selecting "Scale Window" and a percentage. The controller can be set to act as a mouse for this purpose.
Here's an excessively detailed description of how to change the PS4 dialog box size with a controller:
- Go to an NPC and initiate dialog.
- Press L1+R3 to turn on "mouse mode".
- Use the right analog stick to move the mouse cursor over the dialog box.
- Press and hold R2 (keeping it held down until step 10). This should bring up a context menu.
- Using the right analog stick, put the mouse cursor over the "Scale Window" option of the context menu (if it isn't there already).
- Press L2 to bring up a second menu of available sizes.
- Use the right analog stick to move the cursor over the size you want. (140% will put it back where it had been before Stormblood.)
- Press L2 to select and change the size.
- If you're interested in what the NPC is saying, read it now because the next step will advance the dialog.
- Here's where you can finally release R2. The dialog will advance.
- Press L1+R3 to turn "mouse mode" back off.
Downsides to this alternative: It has to be repeated each time you login, because it's not saved between sessions. And the main menu remains really small.
