Unable to buy from menu

Steps:
1. Search for item in wards
2. Attempt to purchase item from menu
3. Above error is given and search ends
4. Perform same search, but mark retainers instead of trying to buy
5. Choosing same item/retainer/etc., can make purchase successfully.
