How do I suck less at PvP?

I'm playing a DRK. Haven't tried other classes. Couple things I'm noticing:

I cannot, for the life of me, switch or click on targets fast enough. This is likely because I'm running a 34" ultrawide, and as beautiful as it is, this is becoming a draw back. I had a similar problem in both SC2 and MOBAs due to the cursor size. In the case of XIV, I can't figure out a fix yet.

When I do manage to target the person I want to, it is extremely difficult to repeatedly slap them in the face as everyone moves around. This is extremely common in MMORPGs but it makes me wonder: are ranged classes FoTM as usual?

I have died twice in 5 matches as I'm well aware of overextending and other simple concepts from years of MOBA and FPS games. However, I do not feel like I am contributing anything. I can literally slap a healer for days and their life bar won't budge. If the healer decides to start moving, I am completely screwed as my DPS will go down drastically.

    Speaking of DPS, mine sucks.

If anyone could provide some tips, I'd greatly apreciate it.

EDIT: also tried "Enable expanded mouse functionality" to increase the cursor size for visibility....except now there's god damn mouse lag similar to screwy FPS mouse settings that don't use raw mouse input.

Practice, practice , practice, know close targeting keys, lower specs on PvP if needed for better frame rates. PVP areas can lag quite a bit but lower specs seems to work better at times. Know your job and PvP actions. Focus on main objectives and pick of the weak.

I don't have any lag (4.6 ghz, 1070, 32gb ram, etc. etc.)...there is just a ridiculous amount of **** going on my screen at once to the point where it is hard to filter and absorb all the information.

So how exactly does the PvP meta in this game work? Focus fire healers? Ignore tanks? Focus fire DPS? I'm far more familiar with FPS and MOBA genres.

All meta went out the window with 4.0. There are so many new people that the games are an absolute mess right now.

    Basically though, Feast 101:

Pay attention to your medals. DPS never want to go over 1 stack, and I would even go as far as to say that tanks should not go beyond 2-3 stacks anymore due to the mitigation changes. Tanks should always get their stacks before any DPS or healers do.

Don't ever take O or D buff as a tank.

Attack the easiest kill first / biggest threat. This is usually going to be DPS that has no defense buff > DPS with D buff > Healer as an opening. As the game goes on, this will turn into attacking people who have over-stacked. However PLD's and DRK's should be sticking to healers and stun / silence locking when you see your DPS ready to score a kill.

Kill Adrenaline boxes when they spawn.

Kill Wolves heart when it spawns, give it to your healer.

As mentioned before, as the game goes on people will over stack, especially right now, so you need to take advantage of that and again go for the easiest kill. Any DPS or healer with stacks is an easy kill. Any tank with 4+ stacks is an easy kill.
