Lol people crack me up on here, are people seriously crying about the content dying too quickly? You all knew that Moogle was going to die within hours of the patch unless people were seriously delusional.

Lets say the drop rates on content = bad(D.ring bad) in FFXIV:

"Oh my god, did Tanaka create this?"
"Oh my god, SE fix it, 0/65!"

MMO's these days cannot keep up the pace with putting out new content to keep people busy. The quickest any company can put out new content is about 3-4 months in the MMOworld, now in days a content patch might last two weeks before people begin the proverbial "countdown" until the next patch.

Lets look at World of Warcraft, patch 4.2 came out June 28th, people were bored of it in less than three weeks. Patch 4.3 just released November 29th, so about 5 months of waiting, it is currently December 17th, hours after patch 4.3 went live on November 29th some guilds were already 8/8 bosses killed in the new raid, the worst part is that people are already done with patch 4.3 and counting down the next 5-6 months for the next expansion which people are going to enjoy for maybe three weeks before waiting around for the first content patch.

This is why you can't be hardcore with MMO's anymore, no company can keep up. This is why you're starting to see lots of MMO's going with cash shops/vanity stuff now to nickle and dime people because its hard to retain consistent subs. MMO's are beginning to run their course, most people these days have "been there and done that."

Content dying out is the major negative of western casual mmo design. It removes alot of the work and grind but the content last 1/10th the amount of time.

WoW is a prime example of how no one not even Blizz making near a billion $$$ a year can produce enough casual content to hold everyone over to the next patch. People beat cataclysm in 3 weeks... garbage design is the only logical conclusion to this, the lack of content is a major factor of why people are starting to flee wow they are just feed up with every expansion only lasting a month. This is the biggest problem of current age mmo design.

The oldies EQ/XI/Lineage and such content would last years. Now it is common to expect mmo content to last 1-6 weeks, which shows how bad the genre is getting and it drives me crazy people support this. Content should not expire (get negated due to better rewards from other content) content should layer on top of each other, giving the players more then they can possibly play in a weeks time. Think of WoW if every raid was valid, every dungeon was decent, if crafting ment anything besides buff... how much better would it be. You would never be able to do everything in a month. NO boredom, no having to take breaks to wait for content. That is what a mmo should be, never ending and Impossible to complete if you play 1hr a day or 24hrs a day.

The argument new content should always come out to avoid doing the same stuff over and over is not valid to support the western model... because the proven fact no dev studio can produce it fast enough even with an absurd amount of income.

Devs need to stop making everything casual or start release patches every Monday of every week. So add some hardcore content to keep those who are not casual busy or hire 300 more devs to churn out a content patch weekly.

To comment on Moogle, it is Semi-casual you can spam it but the drop rates are not 100%. So to clear a whole ls's drops will probably take 1-2 months min.

Why don't you just limit yourself participating to just one run a week?

I can put limitations on my character in Skyrim, so why can't you in FFXIV?

Used to play a game called Asheron's Call 2 and while they had problems they were able to put out a decent chunk of content monthly - they weren't raid content but it was enjoyable.

The only thing the old XI team would have done different with the Moogle quest is point the 5 NMs on opposite corners of the world, make them lottery spawns with 30 minute delays and lower the drop rate plus put a 24 hour cool down on the fight itself.
So maybe XIs drop rates weren't all that bad. It was just exacerbated by all the other arbitrary hurdles in the way.
See, now I think assaults and Nyzul Isle were the perfect mix of what you and Jenn are talking about. Assault gave you points at just the right amount to feel like you made progress for 30 mins worth of work towards some really good gear sets. Somehow, even though the leve system in XIV seemed modelled after assaults (kinda), they failed to pull you into the story in the same manner. Nyzul Ilse was just fun, gear drops or no gear drops, I genuinely enjoyed climbing all 99 floors. Long after I completed the climb to the top, which was no quick feat itself, I was still going in and making runs for item and gear drops. Somehow they just haven't managed to capture the feel of doing those here in XIV yet. I think Yoshi P. did mention something similar to Nyzul Isle in the works, but if its easy mode and made for "casual" players, then its gonna flop (in my opinion ). As with everything else, we shall see.

They already put the 5 NMs in a zone you have to WALK around with aggro while you fight the NMs that one-shot you. If they take your advice I don't even want to see what they come up with for the Garuda fight.

Its doable in 15 Minutes, so you can straight re-enter after you defeated the Moogle. There are 2 Sets of the NM's and you actually can avoid getting one-shotted.

Hint how to avoid the Aggro of Tree's: "Avoid the Spriggans". The only Spriggan which really is aggresive link is Spiteful, which you have to kill anyways. Its a thing people will get used to in a couple weeks.

    @ Haters

I would love some "Timesink" Stuff like FFXI Endgame, but the current Gamer-Generation cant stand if they have to do something challenging, or if something takes Time. All brought to their Feet, is what they want. So SE have to deal with it and pull out easy Stuff like this.

I actually like it and its different and i can see more improvements with Future Content until v.2. But its the Majority of Players which DONT want Challenge. "Oh this is sooo hard", "Oooh this is a Timesink" etc etc. Videogames are ALWAYS takes Time, which is fact. If you can get a Game to 100% in 1 Week, whats the Point in buying it? Can i sell Games to you, where you just open the Box and it says "You beat this Game"? You dont even need a to insert a Disc to your Console!!! Same concept.

i agree make things hard, but no way on the twice a week bs. why are we paying to do something twice a week. that didn't make it harder or anything. your paying to wait. this type of tactic in mmo's sucks. i like the route they went with no wait times. just make it take longer to grind them for the drops. 1% drop rate fine. having to wait a week to do 1 run ...no frigin thank you.

Weeble, if there is no wait time.... CONTENT WILL BE DONE IN LESS THAN A WEEK.........................With 2-4 months of nothing! I also wouldn't do the content if it was a 1% drop rate, I would esplode.

This thread is about making content last not kill it.
