It IS just a tad loud. A slight lowering of the sound's volume would be perfectly fine.

Yeeeeeah, the audio mastering in this game could be a bit better if I'm being totally honest.
Ever had 3 SAM's at once ina trial?
SSHHHHHIIIIIIIIIING!!!! x3.
And God forbid FATEs...
Yeah I mean it's one thing if you're playing the SAM yourself. But if you're in a group and you're just constantly hearing this sound that just cuts over everything it does get a bit tiresome.
MCH Spreadshot anybody? I wanted to use Grenado shot on AoE pulls just to keep my party from going crazy... MCH spreadshot is way worse.
I can tolerate the SAM effects but I hate the WHM stone 4 sound. OMG it makes me want to pull my hair out.
This has been bothering me since my first Stormblood dungeon.
I really hope they adjust the sound for this. I leveled my SCH first in Heavensward and remember how Broil was changed (even though I personally didn't mind the original sound and thought it was a bit funny; I can see why they changed it to "generic fire attack"). If this goes unchanged I'll be very disappointed. Simply reducing the volume of that spell in particular would be acceptable.
I still main heals, so I'm not always (or often) in the melee clump, but that sound effect still splits my ears from near-max healing range. I have some audio sensitivity, and like others have said, I've lowered my volume settings a lot as it is; lowering it further would reduce things to being inaudible (and I'd still be able to hear that sound above others unless I turned everything off, and I already play without the BGM and ambience most of the time). I wouldn't mind if it was some big cooldown of theirs, but when it's firing off about every 5-10 seconds or whatever (I don't have a SAM, at all, mostly for this reason), I don't think it should be making the degree of noise that it is.
It's so much louder than everything else, and it is very high pitch. I get headaches from these sorts of sounds. I don't want to dislike playing with a class because of something they can't control. That said, I rely heavily on audio cues from games, so again, turning off ALL my sounds is a stupid non-solution. Additionally, it's not like RDM got really anything that is distracting, especially with audio. They have a few abilities that are nifty graphically, but they are not noisy. So why is this ability of SAM's?
Also, I never had a serious issue with any other spell sound other than Spread Shot (as far as I remember), but even that is better than this, because of the pitch/volume. Also there's the fact that Spread Shot is only for AoEing. This gets used on everything. I saw someone mention the sounds of Limit Breaks; it should be a no-brainer why their use and bar activation are as they are, but I'd be upset if the limit-break-bar-fill sound went off every 10 seconds, and it's not so dissimilar from this ability.
tl;dr: Hope they tweak this. It's as if the spell audio has a slightly higher volume and priority than anything else, and it's shrill on top of that.
My sounds are properly adjusted and VERY LOW. There are many ways the sound could be adjusted. Something that is used constantly no matter the situation does not deserve such a distracting and ear-splitting noise.
Also sorry I dunno its name. I'm sure it has been said here. It's the shrill one.

Damn I love the sounds they make.
My first dungeon with a Samurai I literally had to mute the game because the high-pitched, shrill sound. It is painful to me on my normal sound settings. The skills in question are Midare Setsugekka and Higanbana.
Luckily, I found under System Configuration > Sound Settings > Player Effects Volume I could mute Party and Other PCs. However, this sound will keep me from leveling SAM without muting my own sound effects in the process. Sad.
Cuz nippon steel folded 10 000 million times and so edgy it can slash through the universe?
It doesn't bother me too much, every now and again I do notice the sound tho and find it irritating.
I find Samurais running around like hyperbolic children spamming their AoE at nothing getting all worked up to be more annoying. Especially when they go on to fail horrible at the mechanics only to die and continue to fail at it putting pressure on healers and to waste LB's cuz '' muh katana ''.
Gaaaaaaaaah, that sound is my least concern lol.
Everyone and their mother plays Samurai, I bet they're plotting to come together and make one big gigantic midare at the same time just to annoy people.
Little do they know that I am waiting, waiting for them to lump themselves together like that....
And I will EXPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODE them.
I will end all of our suffering.
Unless nippon steel can cut through nuclear explosions too?
