I love SAM but I have to admit that the sounds have a certain edge to them that I can see might irritate others.

I play samurai, and I 100% agree. The high pitched noise is painful on the ears. None of the rest of the sound effects are that bad (the Arcanist casting sound is the next closest annoying noise to me). It's especially bad when you have to consider turning off noises because your own sound effects are too much.

Normally I find that the sound design in this game is much too high pitched for my liking but I actually really like iaijutsu sounds. I wouldn't mind if they added a bit mote bass to the actual attacks but the charging is perfect for me.
What I really don't like is the high pitched zing sound that plays whenever you do a combo.

Ermm, that literally what your doing. Iajutsu is based on "flicking" the sword out of the sheathe, pressing the blade as hard as possible onto the often metal lined opening, until you allow the kinetic energy to burst the sword out at a high speed.

Shame on me, I actually like those sounds...
I mean, you can always turn down the volume! or just play with no sound at all.
If you think your life is bad, these days I've found out that I play with 295ms.
I made a recording of those high pitched sounds:

I don't have trouble with Iaijutsu's 3 combo move, it's the 1 and 2 combo that are most annoying; Higanbana and Tenka Goken.
Lets hope someone finally fixes this so we can actually play Samurai. Long exposure to these is sure to cause ear damage, and especially in instances aoe rotation you almost literally spam that screeching sound.
Turn sounds off you say? Well that's a fun way to play a game! ... not. I prefer with sounds.

I like them.
I also mourn the original GNB sounds, that got turned into muffled, dull wet noises after similar complaints...
