Thread: Can't decide between Ast or Rdm. x_x

Hello all you very wonderful people. So to give a bit of a background on me, I've been playing since 2.0 and was Sch/Whm from 2.0 to 2.2 when I finally couldn't keep going with healing as I was being stressed out with groups and stuff (mostly back when everyone wiped left and right with Titan HM) and went dps. I was a Smn for 2.3 and then went Blm from 2.4 until Heavensward. In HW I spent most my time (quit at around 3.2 or so) as Smn while trying to tolerate Blm and dabbling in Mch. Eventually I gave up and took a long break to play other stuff.

Now I'm back for SB and was thinking of going Ast and being a healer again since I hear it's a lot of fun, but I tried out Rdm and omg, it's exactly the type of job I love to play having casting with a dab of melee to satiate both my needs and it just melds so well with me. However I can only really focus on one job since I've never been good at managing more than one and while I do find Ast fun, Rdm fits me better, but I don't wanna be a detriment to groups or get benched.

I could use some advice from you guys on if I should just embrace the Rdm that fits me so well or if I should suck it up and go Ast because it would be right thing to do?

Unless you're raging at the queue times, I'd suggest just playing whatever you find most enjoyable. Games are there for the fun of it, and it kind of sounds like you'd be playing a healer as if it was a second job which doesn't seem to fit well. Pick the one you have fun with.

I would say play what you enjoy most because in the end you will usually get cranky and not excited to play the game if you have to play something you don't really want to.

I main AST/WHM and it is fun. The new abilities are cool and I love healing since I main healers in most games I play.

RDM is REALLY fun though. It has replaced BLM as my main DPS job this expansion so honestly if you love it then play it.

Thank you, I'll stick to Rdm as I really do enjoy it immensely and it's extremely rare for me to play a MMO and find a Job that gives me a playstyle that fits perfectly with how I play in games like Skryim, Kingdoms of Amalur, etc., being predominately a caster who throws in a bit of magic enhanced melee for the fun of it. As for queue times, I've got so much to do (level crafting as well as other games I can play on PC or books to read) while I wait on queues, that it has never been an issue for me since in every MMO I've played I always end up as a dps class/job so long queue times are second nature to me lol.

Renryuu, I totally agree! I'm a support/healer main in just about every game I play, but RDM really hit the nail on the head for me. I'm hoping to level it once the initial DPS rush has died down.

If you pursue RDM now and find you have time down the road, you could always level AST then. Never hurts having a healing job in your pocket in case a party needs one or you feel like shaking it up.
