[SPOILER]Dark Knight 60-70 Job quest NPC

So I absolutely loved the Dark Knight job quests, the 65 and 70 battles especially was one of the most amazing things I'd ever seen and I'd love to be able to replay that final battle but that's besides the point.

Who exactly is Myste? I'm not quite sure, Fray says "listen to my voice, listen to our heartbeat." Then before walking away Myste says "in your darkest hour, in the blackest night... think of me, and I will be with you. Always. For where else could I go? Who else could I love but you?"

The way I've interpreted the storyline, Fray became the embodiment of the WoL's darker side, the side that gets angry at having to help everyone, that wants to just up and leave, and is sick of having everyone rely on them. With Myste, I've wondered if he's meant to embody the doubts that the WoL has been facing thus far after killing so many but is still part of us and the love we have for those around us. If anyone has a different interpretation or thoughts I'd love to hear them. For the life of me, I can't "get" the symbolism behind him.

I think you are rather spot on it's just all the killing and death in general that was getting to us. We can't fix everything all those people we killed thought they were doing the right thing as Myste said they had famlies, dreams and hopes and even if we believed they are wrong we are still committing murder, even if the warrior of light is powerful we are still "Human" all the killing and death dealing would of caught up to us eventually. Also we cannot fix the pain of those they left behind.

Also fray appearing (aka our darkside again) that whole last fight was us forgiving ourselves for what we have done, fray technically our darkside was pretty much talking for us in that last encounter.

In the end they discuss why Myste appeared at Fortemps manor and why your soul crystal split Rielle explains compared to everyone else in the story the warrior of light heart must of been bleeding the most of all. Hence why Edmont de Fortemps last conversation in the end stuck with me because even after all that pain, murder and death dealing we still change people's lives for the better even if we had those dark moments and him telling us that he considers the warrior of light family and that they would always have a place at his house stuck with me.

I haven't played the other job quests yet but so far it's one of my favourites since I also feel the questline deals with a lot of themes in the main story as well. People killing each other over ideals thinking they are right and the pain of those left behind burying their loved ones.

What I enjoy about the dark knight questline is that it's mainly about the warrior of light and how they are dealing with well... being the warrior of light and it's burdens.

I was actually thinking "man, these are not living up to the earlier ones" though I did enjoy 65, seeing Sid's master and the battle in there with the dialog.

Then L70 came....HOLY SHIT! I died twice just to see the cutscene again. And to top it off, after the 65 one I started using my "Fray" glamour again for those cutscenes and talk about a payoff!

The journal entries are a hoot to read. fray writing in the journal again was a real treat.

There are several other easter eggs as well, such as in the 58 quest, you can run back and see the dead ala mighan, a poem appears when you check the corpse.

When I first started the quests, I had the feeling that forgiveness was a major theme.

As for what "Myste" actually embodied. I'm going to guess its "empathy". His actions and motivations (drawn from the WoL) suggest the thing that caused the crystal to snap and make "Myste" was Survivor's guilt, along with the burden of having taken so many lives despite wanting to do good. Justification be damned, the WoL has killed, destroyed and ruined enough to be a monster, yet...they are the survivor, they are the hero, even at your worst, you are "doing what you have to do".

"Myste"'s argument is thus: where is the WoL's comeuppance? Where is the guard that takes them to gaol to face justice? The cannon fire that snuff you out like so many soldiers, or the beast that becomes, in that one lethal moment, as lucky as the WoL has been 24/7?

The end of the quest goes back to that role of forgiveness, that forgiving yourself is an important step towards moving on from hardship, loss, and pain, things the WoL had a lot of in Heavensward. "Myste"'s guilt would have spurned them onward in an endless quest of atonement, which "Fray" warns of in the journal earlier on.

"Myste" is unable to forgive themselves...and would that forgiveness be truly genuine had "Fray" not been there as well?

Great post, I do agree the journal entries are amazing it's literally our darkside writing the entries aka ourselves I do hope they keep with that in the next set of quests and dealing with the next part of our PTSD again.

I love the DRK story, because it feels like its the WoL's story as well... as for Myste, I believe he is our regret over the lives lost through our struggles, directly or indirectly. Note that he is an Elezen, no matter our race... and male, no matter our race. And we meet him outside Fortemps Manor, where Haurchefants family lives. While I personally did not love Haurchefant as many did, I still liked his character, and his death was a big loss in Heavensward for the WoL.

I liked Harchefaunt too, but strangely now he seems to have Cult status so obviously not as much as most. I really though he would make an appearance as a shade, Fray totally blew up all of my expectations.

Have to save Haurchefant for when its appropriate.

Remember, there is no memory of us fighting Haurchefant.

Looking at Myste appearance I think he is meant to be a combination of Ysayle and Haurchefant which both of them sacrificed their life for the WoL and deep down WoL still regrets not being able to save them. The child age represent the innocence lost because of the WoL actions since children are often picture to be a symbol of innocence.

Still I must say Dark Knight has the best Job storyline in this expansion and it links itself very well with issues the WoL never face in the MSQ that has remained buried for so long being mostly the consequences of his own actions for this part of the Job storyline.

Hmm that is a good point now that I think about it Myste appearance seems like a combination of them, I do agree that I personally enjoy the dark knight story quest because it explores the WOL reactions to the main quest.
