So how important is spell speed for red mages? my current gear butchered my spell speed and im wondering if i should worry about that XD.

I, too am wondering this. I would imagine that one ought to have enough spell speed to be able to use Redoublement and Holyflare twice in one embolden.
Im not conviced that Spell speed is good for RDM at all. Ive noticed with a higher skill speed when i get to 80/80 my gap closer is still on cool down. I did not have this issue going through the content. We'll have to wait for the Stat weights by someone far more intelligent than i but i think crit/det or crit/DH will be better for RDM.
I think it has waaaaaay too little impact.
Melee skills aren't affected by it.
Too much and you can't double weave oGCDs because you have some clipping.
Auto-attack is not something you would do often and can't even do so while casting (and its a weak thing anyway).
The only benefit is the recast time, really :/
This is why I do not think spell speed is good at all. I sometimes run the problem of not having Corps a Corps up when I get to 80/80. I prioritize crit, direct hit, then det personally.Im not conviced that Spell speed is good for RDM at all. As it stands I would try and avoid spell speed wherever possible.
Another problem to add to the ones posted is that if Omega has fights with 100% uptime, then RDM is going to run dry without Refresh from a ranged. It's not like SMN where you can use Ruin instead of Ruin 3 if low and keep yourself going indefinitely.
Also worth noting that RDM has no DoTs, so that's one aspect of spell speed that's going to waste.

Yeah i say no to Spell speed. Doesn't affect melee rotation and causes you to lose your double weave. We already have great mobility. No DoTs to double dip.
My question is det or direct hit (?), after the Lord stat that is crit.
Det: affects vercure and erase. Always adds damage.
Direct hit: A second critical stat that does 1.25 the damage when it procs. Severely noticeable combined on a crit.
The bad in me says go det. The raider says det will add like 150 more healing max and direct hit is sexy!!
xD So Crit then Direct hit then det if you can't meld the first two.

Pretty sure spell speed is the only stat that can be ruled out (doesnt effect our melee) . Crit was amazing previously but was nerfed (140% rather than 150% base). We have some numbers on crit, however I havent seen much work towards a fomula for direct hit and the new det (buffed) yet.
I'm sure dervy will do it soon, but if det and direct hit are ironed out, and noone else does it (for whatever reason) i'll make a stat weights spreadsheet.
I've been messing with materia since starting to level towards 70 on RDM and as I got closer and closer, I found ss is pretty useless for RDM. As of right now at lvl 70 303 ilvl, I'm going crit>dhit>det>ss and I'm seeing those have very positive effects.
You know, thinking it over, I'm honestly not sure. Those Direct Crits do cause a substantial spike we mostly lack in our rotation as we average around 300 Potency when it comes to our skill flow. However, we just don't know the value Det brings in this new setup. It may be better to push stable damage above spikes in our case, because we're a bit more evenly distributed for our damage outside our Melee Phase.
I do personally lean more towards dHit/Crit build for the most visible return, but I don't do extended stat trials.
