Wouldn't it be simpler to have people's current job symbols by their name or something?

I think the argument against that is this being an MMO with glamour options is that most players have no desire to resemble eachother nor have a bunch of identical looking characters running around.

But, I'm genuinely confused as to how seeing nothing but artifact gear on players would visually aid a player in and of itself.

I mean, imagine if your party consisted of a DRK, NIN, DRG, and AST. That's a lot of black, and you'd be hard pressed to make those snap visual judgements you think would be easier based on gear unless you can quickly parse other details....which sort of defeats the point of this being a benefit in combat.

Do other player's vanities bother people that much? What about lowbie players that can't use vanity?

I definitely don't want to eliminate glamours and vanity.

I do want to emphasize option. I would think this can be done client side, too. The gear even at low level does look pretty silly, but so does a Dark Knight running around with a bikini on. Should they be able to? Absolutely.

Still, the AF gear is so heavily underminded that the gear is available for less than an hour before a cheap-look tome gear replaces it. The devs put a lot of work into that gear, and old-school FF fans love that nostalgia just like nearly every boss they throw in this game.

It can be like in PvP, changing the names in PLD, WHM, MNK and so on.
Or add the job icon to their normal names

Gear alone don't help as identificator, because most time the battle is too zoomed out to see gear details of every party member.

This is definitely possible. SE did it for XI; in XI you have the option to see everyone in base RSE.

I would love this option. As cute as you might think being naked with nothing but a moogle or chocobo head is, it's not something I enjoy seeing. You're free to wear what you wish, of course, but I'd also like to be equally free to hide it.

Exactly, people get to see what they want to see.

Why are you so busy looking at peoples glamour in a raid? O_o

Or people like what they like? I much rather focus on these "hardcore" mechanics in such
instead of having a meltdown seeing a Chocobo head facin' Susano...Susano might actually find it amusing lol.

Weapons are plenty visible enough that if you want visual identification, that's all that's necessary.

Sorry, but this request really has no validity to it. The "benefits" you list in favor are not really beneficial in any way.

I don't see the point unless you're trying to minimize the GPU load. In one other game there is the option to "turn off all players but yourself's gear" so they all look like they're wearing single-colored robes. Usually the feature was invoked during raids/field-bosses because the actual processing requirements on the CPU and GPU would bring the game to a grinding halt.

In you have an 8-man run or a 24-main raid, the "stream" compromise would be to use the level 50 relic gear appearance so that they can be identified visually. But as for improving a raid experience, I don't think it does.

eg "During duties show non-party players in relic gear only" (Lowers GPU memory requirements during Duties/Raids/Trials), and "During field exploration, show non-party players in relic gear only" (Lowers GPU memory requirements during FATE's and Hunts), and then in character settings, also have "Show (Own|Party|Other PC|Friends) in Relic gear only"

Truth be told, you'd even have to create a chat filter that transforms messages, as the way we as players talk is a very far shot from the way NPCs commonly do. It's typically not at all lore appropriate.

If you take the argument seriously, it leads to rather funny results.
I don't think that was the point of his argument.

It would be nice if the names had an enforced naming scheme, but we would just run out of names pretty darn quick. Look how quickly the bots managed to do that with the RNG names.

Then there is also the problem of having actual "family names" that repeat but the players having no relation.

With MMORPG's you basically have two options:
    - Let everyone create their own names, to hell with the lore
    - Enforce the Lore, and explain what the name they've randomly/pseudo-randomly selected means and if they agree with it.

Just about every game goes for the first option because players don't like to follow role-playing rules.

Well if you're a "Seeker of the Sun" Mi'qote that is easy.
Male: your name is Tia if you have been 'socially other otherwise castrated'. Nunh if not.
Female: your name is the first name of the male that is sleeping with you and all of his other sisters, whether or not you even like him, because you don't get to choose that.

There's a reason I'm a moonwalker. Those sunwalkers are messed up in the head freaks in the lore...

Now... do you really want them to enforce lore on us... can you imagine the weirdness of all of the male players on catboys in this game logging in to find themselves with the surname of '[a certain part]-less' ? Because they are ALL Tia's. Operating a harem of some 40-100 catgirls is a fulltime job... That's why you run across so few Nunhs among the NPC sunwalkers... you're there, servicing... and hoping nobody managed to sneak a boy out some 20 years back before the male you killed off managed to snip him...

And that's not to mention the new 'task' all the female 'Seeker of the Sun' characters would be stuck with... That Nunh of yours killed to get access, and he's not letting you run off anytime soon now...

Yeah... let's just keep lore where it belongs: something for the RPers and the Devs who watch too much of the anime sold in the back in the shop... and the rest of us will pretend the above lore doesn't actually exist...

I strongly suspect most people who want 'lore' more enforced have not read the actual lore... If they had, we cat-people would be the rarest race played, not the most common one. That, or you would all be Keepers of the Moon like me. It kind of reminds me of when I was in WoW, and all these blood elf players would talk about how they love lore, and then describe their toons as heroic and emo and so on... and I would point out that in lore; they survive by devouring the souls of captives, and live in an authoritarian regime that uses mind magic and 'forced disappearances' to deal with anyone who questions the regime.

Cat people in FFXIV have some seriously freaky lore... and it is even written into a strict naming convention the Keepers of the Sun live under - which hits DIRECTLY to your desire... and would in fact effect your very character.
