As of today, all active FINAL FANTASY XIV Character Options have been set to cancel their reoccurring billing on January 5th, to ensure that no one is billed who does not want to be billed. So per the instructions given on the Lodestone website, you need to opt into the reoccurring billing before you can change your payment method and period.
