    Pull size in 70 dungeons

As a recent arrival to the 70 dungeons, I leave this up to the healer. By default, I do small pulls unless the healer says they want more. Sorry, folks, but this isn't HW where everyone is drastically over-geared and big pulls are the gold standard.

Given that the content is a week old (less if you consider the roadblocks people had to get through), I imagine a lot of people are still adapting to the new skills and class amendments that were made. I for one have noticed that CD management is more important than ever on pld. Perhaps this will be less an issue when ilvl increases, but I am getting a little annoyed by dps saying (not asking mind you) "do bigger pullz."

I wanted to get a general consensus from the tanking community as to what they are doing. I want to say that I am asking this question from the position of someone who has played tanks almost exclusively since the game launched...so I know how to do large trash pulls.

    I appreciate any input.

Yes, I feel that too, 2 packs pull is good, 1cd is enough

I am generally doing single pulls with any DF healers. We are under geared and most are still getting use to the damage we take.

If I am playing with a healer I know (or happened to get healer with EX weap) then I double pull. Anything more then that and the incoming damage is likely too high.... that and red mages who refuse to AOE...

I've been pushing my pulls lately.
I forget which expert it is, but the one where towards the middle, it has 2 large packs of dogs run towards the group. I pulled that + the packs of mobs prior. Was pretty tight though, not sure if I could have pulled to the wall.

On the same one, I was able to pull from the beginning to the flying machine things.

PLD is ridiculous atm between HG and clemency. Had a good DF healer as well

I just try and check everyone's gear while in the waiting room. If most are already Ala Mighan gear, then I would do big pulls. Also, if the healer has a Lux weapon from 3.x, that will tell me to big pull too.

Pull first two groups in one - did you handle it fine? If yes, continue. If no? go slow. Personally I think Kugane should be 2 pulls before the first boss. (Ambush being part of second pull). Anything else feels slow

Chiming in here as a healer, one of those guys who keep you guys alive

And I can tell you without doubt that as long you AND your healer aren't geared up some more any kind big pulls are at best stressing your healer to the max, at worst you are begging for a wipe.

Additionally, incoming damage compared to defenses has gotten up, so it is harder for healers to keep up if you pull like crazy, regardless of gear. Among healers the consensus is "tanks have become more squishy".

So til everyone has adapted and geared up I recommend keeping pulls at no more than 2 and check your healer's gear. If your healer has plenty of time to dish out damage with a pull of 2 you might increase it to 3. If your healer can't dps at all (but would be willing to do so) reduce pull size to 1.

Also keep in mind that while bigger pulls can speed things up if the DPS actually do their AoEs... if you pull so much that your healer can't Holy/Gravity/Bane because they are busy keeping you alive against crazy amounts of damage you'll end up LOSING overall dps power and you are slowing the group DOWN with overly-crazy big pulls instead of speeding things up.

You aren't a great tank if you can do huge pulls -- if you survive huge pulls it mainly means your healer was pushing buttons like crazy. And this is true all the more now in Stormblood, given defensive/self-healing options for tanks have been lessened. What makes you a great tank is pulling just the right size that your DPSing folks AND the healer can push group-damage to maximum while you keep a solid grip on aggro.

Had someone want big pulls in the underwater dungeon the other day. I humored them and pulled two mobs. Took forever for the dps to kill them. Way longer than just killing them one group at a time. Single pulls it was after that.

I can't even do large pulls... 95% of the time Samurai and Red Mages are rushing in before (ERRRHAGGGGERRDDD DPS) I can get flash and scorn off. Then cry when they get eaten. Almost every SAM and RDM I've come across has been that way.

Besides that I've been keeping pulls small. I feel that I get hit a lot harder now than I ever did in HW. That and I'm still getting used to a new hotbar layout that better suits the rotation changes.

I had a healer run ahead and pull enemies. I let him/her tank them until the other enemies I pulled died.
