That's really strange too because IMO DRK got gimped the most in Stormblood.as someone who mained both pld and war in ARR and Heavensward, i was happy with the way war was in HW.it was the perfect tank to me.
that didnt stop me from playing paladin, but i did want more. and instead of nerfing war, i wanted pld to be brought up. War was a perfect balance of everything. it didnt need changes like it got, PLD just needed to be better. now PLD is better but they messed up war.
ill continue to main both, but its a shame that im actually enjoying drk (a tank that i hated in HW) more than war now, all because they felt the need to ruin what made the class great
We are a shell of our former glory.
Who's Xeno?
i dont entirely think so. Drk didnt change too much, it just didnt improve a whole lot. it lost delirum and a few other things, but the core of drk is still the same.
whereas war is just a complete 180 thats very different from how it used to be
Groups didn't go double WAR because of Limit Break penalty and DRK was a beast.
People always seem to forget how insanely strong DRK was even in physical orientated fights because they're too busy drowning in their own "tanks doing more dps than me" tears. It didn't help that WAR is braindead easy to play at a decent level as opposed to DRK who had more buttons per minute than even DPS classes.
War WAS working just fine. The others just weren't working as fine, leaving the situation imbalanced. Exchanging the damage debuff from Storm's Path for double stack generation and effectively removing the stack bonuses from defensive CDs—War's huge advantage over the others while tunnel-visioning the "OT role"—in the balance would have been plenty. The particular way Upheaval scales, the lack of a cleanse of the defensive form of Shake it Off, and the 50% gauge loss on swap, however, just add unnecessary clunk.
As a PLD I'd much rather compete against a WAR freely able to stance dance, instead of only after burning his gauge, and not have the gauge cost, myself, either.
I really really really liked the frantic button presses of DRK and prided myself on clearing all the savages on content with DRK as it was so difficult to play at the upper ends comparatively. Now all that's gone and it's... braindead to play.Groups didn't go double WAR because of Limit Break penalty and DRK was a beast.

IMO it was long overdue for WAR to get a penalty for stance dancing. It was always absurd that DRK and PLD lost hundreds of potency by turning on their tank stance and a WAR lost nothing and could carry their stacks over to pop IB to get topped off and mitigate. Even now, the penalty is less potency for a WAR than for a DRK or PLD unless they swap with 100 gauge or something stupid like that.
Maybe some will think they should have just made Grit/ShO/SwO abilities with no MP cost instead of adding a cost to WAR. I don't much care either way so I won't argue with them.
I understand why they don't want to transfer a full Beast Gauge when switching for one stance to another...but what they could do is capping the gauge at 50 when you switch.
So, if you have 100 beast, you end at 50. But, if you have 50 or less, you don't lose anything. So, in a way, you'd be on the same spot than before "If I can do one Fell Cleave, I can switch and instantly do one Inner Beast"
