I have my home set to Kugane, I have a house in Mist, and have key points set to free or favored locations, like Idyllshire, Rhalgr's Reach, etc. so getting around rarely costs the full 999 gil. You just have to get creative. I guess I have experience from playing FFXI and not being able to teleport myself.
