    RDM: You only have yourself to blame, if you expected something else

    EDIT: After going through the anwsers, I feel that I´m bashing a Job which many people enjoy. So if I insulted someone or their views, I apologize. I get easily emotional, if I persue a goal and feel, this thread was a step to far. I would still like RDM to spend more time in melee, but as stated, this is my personal vision of what RDM should have been. I will give myself more time with the Job and perhaps I will be able to enjoy it more then, since I found the generall concept behind a RDM very good.

    Whenever the discussion of RDM and his integration of the sword comes up, I see people making this statement. Especially Duelle receives this alot, as he tries to convice people, that RDM was meant to be something else.

    Let me say this clearly: No we don`t have ourself to blame!

    So stop saying it is our fault for expecting a hybrid melee. It isn`t! RDM was advertised as hybrid and was delivered as caster with some melee here and there.

    Why's this such a big deal? If you had a first impression that wasn't met then don't play the class. It's not a fault or blame game. You're not expected to play the class if it doesn't fulfill what you want from it.

    so wait... you were expecting a class that was fully viable from range and melee? and you think this would be balanced how? you think it would be straight better at anything? it is a hybrid, it has range and chains some melee into it. This game has some of the slowest combat in mmo history, did you really expect some kind of teleport in teleport out dodge slash and cast class? what are you thinking? how could you possibly think this? be serious man and just stop before someone less kind than me notices

    I do. And I`m disapointed, that I have to. I play SAM now but I really wanted to play a caster for once, which isn`t so stuck up on keeping his range to the enemy.

    I really hope "someone" notices.
    Also, I never stated that I expected him to be viable at both range and melee. The current approach where the melee buffs your damage output is fine. It´s just, that RDM hardly ever goes into melee.

    So just move in closer with whichever caster you want..... No one is forcing you to stay in the back

    A Red Mage should be going into melee as often as possible. The reason for casting your spells at range is to build mana to go in for the melee combo. It's also the only way to cast Verholy and Verflare. It's not a 50/50 split, but it's not "hardly ever". It's part of the rotation.

    I think the true burning issue isn't how it was implemented, nor how those videos and announcements were -interpreted- but rather, this is the developer's envisionment for FF14's red mage. not FF5, nor ANY other FF. Samurai is a dps whereas in ff11 it was a tank....so?

    So we have a spellcaster that builds up power, jumps in, blows it on melee skills, hops back and finishes with a nuke. Rinse and repeat. Instead of whining about how it's "not right" and crying about how "the dev's lied" or whatever your argument is. Be constructive and make suggestions about how the job could be improved on. This isn't aimed at any one person, but rather the majority of people derailing threads about aoe, or rotation, turning it into a shitfest about how it's all wrong. I enjoy the job. Do I think it's perfect, no. Does it need changes in my opinion? sure does.

    I personally find it hilarious that people seriously thought RDM was going to be a true ranged/melee hybrid that was on par with the rest of the dps meta. There was zero chance of this ever happening.

    I find this funny as well. All the demos of it showed it mostly casting with the sword burst phase. I am finding it fun to play though. I will get mine to 70 after I finish the MSQ with my BLM.
