My thing is: why attack a video game server that's meant for entertainment? Where's the gain? All they did was piss a lot of people off.

That's the point.
It's for the lol's. To piss people off, get them angry, cause chaos, so then they can sit back and laugh at the misfortune. That's how it usually goes.
Anyways.. I personally am not having that many issues playing since the 16th. Only main issues i am having/had is The Great Wall of Raubahn, and the Instances congestion that boots me when i queue for instanced quests, sometimes PvP and Dungeons. That was for the 16th, 17th, and maybe 18th too.. Don't remember that much, but i'm not having nearly as many issues as the first 2 days of EA, and i'm on a NA server.

For those who say "this is just an excuse" or "why would people DDOS a game for no reason, SE is just making things up" remember that Blizzard also got DDOSed when they were launching one of their expansion... forgot which one. And also PSO2, the other biggest MMO in the market after WoW and FFXIV,also got DDOSed once that actually made all of their servers went down for three weeks.
So people really sometimes just do that for no reason.
