No offense but it really sounds more like an excuse at this point since they are saying it has been going on since the 16th (early access start) and one would think they would say something far earlier than days later AFTER the media has started publishing bad press about the expansions launch.

I would also like to point out they have not only put out an expansion but have also opened up a free login campaign at the same point far overloading the capacity of the servers themselves. The "DDoS" may very well be their own CUSTOMERS trying to get what SE has sold and/or advertised.
Or, you know, they considered it might be an influx because of the expansion but the investigation took these 4 days.No offense but it really sounds more like an excuse at this point since they are saying it has been going on since the 16th (early access start) and one would think they would say something far earlier than days later AFTER the media has started publishing bad press about the expansions launch.

No point trying to be rational, most people want to just make up some big conspiracy. [Sarcasm] Yes I am sure Yoshi P and everyone had a big meeting I am sure and discussed what the issues were and were like, yes, lets just lie to them. Tell them it was a DDOS attack, all of you people on the network team and everyone here let's all make sure we are on board with this big lie to the people because that is what us creators of video games love to do. Having respect and being passionate about our game? No way we all just want to rob people and lie to them because that is what our life is all about. [/sarcasm]
Well my anecdotal experience says that today felt different than every other day since EA. Today I actually got lag in game where I would see multiple people with the DC icon, but I wouldn't actually disconnect. Every other time I'd get lag it would be for a few seconds and then I'd disconnect.
But all that says is today is different. Considering it is the release date, you might not be wrong. Well, anyways, to the routers it's a flood of packets whether it's customers or a malicious third party.

Oh look there is a conspiracy theory all over again.
just to tell you:a company should really avoid to lie. i worked in several companies and we never lied concerning technical issues and stuff. There is a huge risk that the truth is coming out which would damage the credibility of a company sustainly. So i really doubt your conspiracy theory.
Its quietly possible that this is a DDOS attack, it is very popular for people to ruin the release of a new expansion also.
Additionally it is less afford needed to run a DDOS attack, everyone can do this.

If you can't even make an argument against her comment you shouldn't waste forum space.
Let's see: according to SE's news about said DDoS the attack is supposedly ongoing since the 16th and they only informed their customers just now.
So you're supposedly under attack by a DDoS - which could explain the massive queue times since SB early acces - and you don't inform your customer right away as it would provide the best explanation for the queue times but instead you wait 5 days?
That behavior isn't logically sound. If you'd really care about your customer you'd inform them the minute you have information about something like that.
Maybe they themselves see the massive floods of customer as some sort of DDoS which they can't handle?
Edit: And the timing of the emergency maintenance and said news about DDoS raises a flag. The official release for SB was yesterday 20.06 and SE is forced to shut-down their servers for an emergency maintenance just 1 day after the official release. A DDoS would certainly make for a good scapegoat.

If they had said something 2-3 days ago maybe I would be more inclined to believe them, the fact that nothing is said until after poor media reception starts being posted leaves a lot of suspicion. Lets also add to the fact it is common for Japanese companies (not just SE but in general) to have individuals or outside sources take the blame for project or business failures in order to save the companies reputation. It is never the companies fault when it can be someone else's fault.Oh look there is a conspiracy theory all over again.

Perhaps this is a DDoS attack but it honestly just shows more of a pattern of overselling your product beyond support capacity. This is coming from many years of MMO launches and expansions and having seen queues (which are fine and common) to whole servers being taken down (which is not) and then for some unknown reason them having the brilliant idea that during a time (launch of a new expansion) when your going to see a massive peak of returning characters on top of your normal load (which on some data centers and servers already see queue times) to also launch a login campaign to bring even more players into it seems like they simply created a poor situation for themselves and are trying to find a reason why it isnt the companies fault but someone specific or some outside source.
DDoS's happen, that is life. DDoS's do not create line ups because your server doesnt create more than one instance. It doesnt change a few of the issues we have experienced that they have claimed to fix. It will cause some of the issues we have experienced but those issues are just as likely to be caused by the servers being overloaded with too many players and not a proper system or plan in place to deal with them
