    Most likely I would not remark it as much with words that are more common. But I think it is always good to switch it up a little bit. Every few lines a perhaps, maybe or mayhap. The way it is now you have mayhap in 9 of 10 lines in the main story.

    I'm pretty sure that's being done deliberately, and not out of laziness or lack of vocabulary. They didn't begin three sentences in a row with the same word by accident, or because they simply couldn't think of any alternatives. It's a linguistic technique to link the three possibilities through choice of words. It's almost like "mayhap" is serving as a bullet point, or to present each in a multiple-choice "A, B, or C" fashion.
