    Looking at Gaming Laptops...Suggestions?

A year ago, when I bought a laptop for school, I didn't think "Gee, I want to game right now" at school so I went with the best Toshiba Satelite A505 at the time despite the fact I told myself I would NOT resort to lolIntelGMA (and this only happened because I didn't want to drop 80 bucks extra on the Samsung I wanted because Geek Squad did what I could do myself, it had a low end Nvidia on it.) Yep...I'm getting those urges.

I'm looking at favorable conditions to get a new laptop so I can give the one I got to my folks who need another one anyway, and I've been thinking about a gaming laptop.

    I'm looking at an MSi GX660 http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-GX660-053US-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B003VX1CZ0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1300249257&sr=8-2

I may also think about a GX740, it doesn't have the light show but its still light and has a 17 inch screen.

Trying to stay around the 1200-1300 range. I'm open to suggestions. Illuminated keyboards are not a big thing since I usually have a light source on campus and everywhere I take my 'top anyway, but they are a plus nonetheless. I would like at least 3 years before it becomes outdated for any serious mobile gaming. Aethetics are a plus, I like flash when it comes to my gaming rigs, and the case I got my PC in right now is no exception.

    So, any suggestions?

Note: This laptop will NOT be for playing FFXIV only. My school has UPnP disabled so I can't version check and thus log in and I doubt many other places will appreciate the drain on bandwidth. It is to play other games when I am not using it for class/home work.

I have a Toshiba Qosmio and it runs this game like a champ. Mine was $2500 but I know they come around your price range as well.

Agreed with Qosmio. Killer spec for a laptop.

the Lenovo Y560 is what i play on. I play at Windowed 768x1366, no AA, General/Distance Drawing at Standard, Textures at Standard, and no Depth of Field or Ambient Occlusion. Its really light, but I advise buying a laptop cooler because this thing gets hot. You can find an i7/ATI5730 for $1200, and sometimes a discount. (I ended up paying $800 for mine)

    Game rarely lags.

If you can, find a Refurbed Asus G73. Asus is pretty good when it comes to Refurbs, and the GPU is a beast. the only problem is that its huge. Again, you should probably get a cooler for this.

    Don't get an Alienware.

I have the same laptop. It gets it done, and was about $800. I hate switching to it after playing on my desktop though. That thing makes this game look awesome.

Gateway FX series is really nice. It should be around $700-800 now and it runs the game fine. I have the p-7805u model. I recommend trying something new (since this thing is 2 years old) but if you want a decent lappy that runs the game well for cheap, this is your comp.

Can you raise your budget ?

Me, my bro and my friends are using Asus G73J and are very pleased with the laptop, i play FFXIV daily on it for 4-10 hrs

at home u can use a coolin pad to reduce heatin, or u can try to repast it urself and it will drop from 10-20C as ive read on the forums but never did it myself cause i was afraid it would void the warranty

and if u want it to be around 1400$ u gotta customize and remove some features first, or u can get it at around 1600-1700USD with 2 yrs warranty

    Gl ^^

you actually paid money for a gateway and are proud of it??

sorry, I really don't want to or mean to be a di--.

Moving on. I know they are expensive, but I've owned 2 different systems now and Alienware has always delivered dollar for dollar, and you can escape with a decent one for about $1500 nowadays.

If you look at the 9-1100 range you can find a couple great 15" and 17" Sony Vaio's with core i5's and 7's, 8 gb memory, and radeon HD's that will do the trick as well.

well best PC? custom build ones. Alienware? yes they are good but you can get better performance w/ better quality on each part inside by building one.

    Also...don't get an alienware. Refurbished parts sold at high prices? {No thanks!}
