Most likely to happen if 5.0 is when we go to Garlemald as it would suite the expansion theme.
Also there should be plenty of Gunblades looted from the defeat of Garleans after 2.0 by now considering Gunblades is standard issues for Garlean Soldiers.

Firearms seem pretty unpopular among Eorzeans/Domans, and even those that do use them are using black powder shotguns or flintlock rifles, not the more modern firing mechanics that gunblades use. I don't think anyone outside of Garlond Ironworks or Skysteel Manufactory would be interested in acquiring them.
Not quite as there is a Side-quest storyline that goes into this topic of people outside of Garlemald using Gunblades being a small Doma village.Firearms seem pretty unpopular among Eorzeans/Domans, and even those that do use them are using black powder shotguns or flintlock rifles, not the more modern firing mechanics that gunblades use. As the side-quest stated the Gunblade is actually considered far easier weapon to master than any other weapon no matter a person's skill level and some of the new design Gunblades we see in 4.0 are using Flintlock rifles as part of their design.
of course this also revealed the gunblades are often looted from Garlean bases due to lack of security.

I'd say whips for BST like in FF5.

Geomancer was more than a hint, it was going to be in 4.0 but later changed to Samurai.Geomancer would fill me with glee, and it feels like a hint after the one in AST's questline (he even uses a unique weapon just like Arcanist in 1.0 had), but SE knows how badly we want dancer after the intense speculation that Lyse was one in the Stormblood reveal trailer.
But, I fully expect 5.0 will bring a tank and healer, since we need new ones now, and building 2 jobs seems far easier for the devs to handle than Ninja in the 2.x patch cycle, followed immediately by Dark Knight, Astrologian, and Machinist in 3.0. Both Red Mage and Samurai feel far more polished and balanced.
From what we know from interview before release they literally have no intention to add dancer.
I want to see a beast master dps that uses 1H axe/shield, and has a pet gap closer where the toon picks up the pet and throws it at the mob.

Necromancer, from FFV Advance....its like an evil blue mage
Not saying it'll ever happen, but a girl can dream . . .
From this linked live letter:
Although he has said that he'd want Blue Mage, Yoshi has also explained multiple times how Blue Mage as it is fully recognized in the Final Fantasy series simply wouldn't be possible in a proper and reasonable MMORPG (a.k.a. not FFXI). Sure, it's possible, as I showed in a thread that I should eventually do a rework on (#shamelessplug), but it'd be important to understand that what we'd get in the game likely isn't going to be what fans of the series have come to know of the job.I think that blue mage is an interesting job because you can learn spells from enemies, but honestly I don't think that it really fits MMORPG party settings. If anything, I think it would work solo and it would be really fun to implement it as a job where you go around and learn abilities from every monster, so I'd definitely like to try and do this, but I'm concerned when it comes to playing in a party players would put up barriers if you haven't learned certain abilities. Additionally, in the event you are able to use abilities forever once you learn them, the difficulty of learning abilities would be high, and we wouldn't be able to balance the system so it wouldn't revolve around procuring your abilities instead of equipment. This wouldn't be practical enough to fit in an MMORPG party setting and conversely if you are swapping in only certain abilities you've learned, the true image of a blue mage would diminish, so this is something that I am concerned with.
Now as for other potential candidates, after the dust has settled from our shiny, new mechanics tweaks, we'll most likely get a tank and a healer not because of demand for those essential roles, but rather to improve the variety of choices in those departments.
For a new tank, there are two paths here. One is the orthodox: the same tried-and-true tin-can tank like the three options we have right now. The other is the unorthodox, being either a caster tank like potentially Geomancer or something like Dancer which could have effects providing defense and other stats needed for a suitable tanking experience. Now if only tanks right now had that.....
Anyway, same case goes for the next healer. An orthodox healer would be another spellcaster like that Oracle-style job Yoshi mentioned wanting to add as a third job in Stormblood. The unorthodox healer choice would be anything but a caster such as Dancer or some modified version of Chemist.

Blue mage doesnt learn spells from EVERY enemy, just a list of blue magic spells from some enemies, or from those that share the same ability. From this linked live letter:

Also, every job is gated behind "not having an ability from job quest" as is. People are already mad when someone comes in as a class, and not a job.
Equipping spells was FFXIs system, not BLU in all FFs.
Plus there is no reason to make it "hard to learn" like in XI, again, just XI did that. U had to be hit by the ability, and win the fight, thats it.
Pretty much every job quest trial requires u to win the fight.
(plus every fight outside of job quest trials)
he has his own opinion of what BLu should be, because of FFXI, and just isnt trying to make BLU like an actual BLU.
CLAIRE PENDRAGON
Not just FFXI. Same thing with at least FFV, FFX and the FFTA series. He's looking at the fundamental aspect of "Blue Mage gets hit by a learnable skill, Blue Mage defeats mob with learnable skill, Blue Mage learns skill" that has spanned multiple FF games.
He's not the only one with that mentality either. If you want proof of that, check that link in my sig....I know it's a shameless plug, but it shows what opposition there is to Blue Mage learning spells via job quest fights and cutscenes (among other things).
